I booked for my brother, his small dog and I to stay for 1 night on the strength of the review in the 2007 Alastair Sawday book. The website says "we welcome all well behaved pets". I mentioned that we were bringing a dog on the "Special requests" section of the website. Several days later when we arrived at 7.30pm... More

Myself and my husband stayed at this pretty, quiet retreat for a 2 night break 14th and 15th May 2014. On arrival we were shown to our room which was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The couple that are `holding the fort` so to speak , until this property is sold, really couldn`t do enough for you. At breakfast time your... More

Lovely country pub in tiny rural village. Very good Sunday lunch with good food. We sat outside making the most of the sunshine - lovely outside area but not at it's best (it was early May!). Not easy to find but if you persevere you'll find a warm welcome.

We booked this Inn for an overnight stay and was promised an e-mail receipt, which never arrived. Subsequent phone calls and e-mails went unanswered. In the week prior to our stay we were still unable to confirm booking and after reading that the property was up-for-sale and under administration, we sought an alternative. Imagine my surprise when the bank statement... More

Although the pub is in administration we would not have known this . The service provided by the interim team the food the standard of upkeep was very good. We would certainly go back for a short stay or walking break . Great circular walks from the doorstep.

We were staying at a holiday cottage further up the lane and walked here on a warm, sunny Sunday in February!! The pub is currently up for sale, but the lady looking after the place was highly accommodating and very friendly. We sat outside and had a couple of drinks and went to order food, only to find out the... More

First things first, the place is in administration and is being run by a company to keep the place going whilst a buyer is found. That said, the two lady's running the place are doing the best they can with what they have, and a good job they are doing too! Lovely home cooked pub meals and nice beers and... More

I booked without knowing how far off the beaten track it was. This 16c hotel fortunately had modern bedrooms and bathroom, which although ours was small it was clean and warm. It's true there was no mobile phone signal or even a TV, but it afforded us the opportunity to talk, read and get the travel games out. There were... More

The pub is in a fabulous rural setting, quite remote with no mobile reception. Our road atlas and sat-nav had no difficulties in getting us here (though it is, technically, in Kingsbridge, not Luxborough). As others have commented, our 'small double room' (Room 11) was very small with limited room to manoeuvre, limited storage space for clothes and no TV.... More

As previous reviewers have noted this once perfect little inn is now unrecognisable. The manageress and a couple of regular staff are lovely and trying really hard but there is just too much wrong, and the once buzzy atmosphere has gone totally. On both Friday and Saturday nights it was like the Marie celeste and you can see why. We... More
