Although the pub is in administration we would not have known this . The service provided by the interim team the food the standard of upkeep was very good. We would certainly go back for a short stay or walking break . Great circular walks from the doorstep.

We were staying at a holiday cottage further up the lane and walked here on a warm, sunny Sunday in February!! The pub is currently up for sale, but the lady looking after the place was highly accommodating and very friendly. We sat outside and had a couple of drinks and went to order food, only to find out the... More

First things first, the place is in administration and is being run by a company to keep the place going whilst a buyer is found. That said, the two lady's running the place are doing the best they can with what they have, and a good job they are doing too! Lovely home cooked pub meals and nice beers and... More

I booked without knowing how far off the beaten track it was. This 16c hotel fortunately had modern bedrooms and bathroom, which although ours was small it was clean and warm. It's true there was no mobile phone signal or even a TV, but it afforded us the opportunity to talk, read and get the travel games out. There were... More

The pub is in a fabulous rural setting, quite remote with no mobile reception. Our road atlas and sat-nav had no difficulties in getting us here (though it is, technically, in Kingsbridge, not Luxborough). As others have commented, our 'small double room' (Room 11) was very small with limited room to manoeuvre, limited storage space for clothes and no TV.... More

As previous reviewers have noted this once perfect little inn is now unrecognisable. The manageress and a couple of regular staff are lovely and trying really hard but there is just too much wrong, and the once buzzy atmosphere has gone totally. On both Friday and Saturday nights it was like the Marie celeste and you can see why. We... More

Having not paid attention and thought we were staying in Dunster we were a bit concerned to be directed to the middle of nowhere! But it was a fantastic mistake. We had a small room - bath only and no TV - but it was fine for a two night stay, and fantastic value.. Beautiful old pub, great breakfast and evening... More

The location is fantastic, if you manage to find the place. It is not in Luxborough, it is in Kingsbridge. The online directions are totally inadequate. The quality of the breakfast was extremely variable, depending which cook was on duty. When one books a small double room one at least expects to have somewhere to put some clothes and at... More

Pre-shoot dinner bed and breakfast for 14. Private room for very filling and tasty dinner of wide variety. Drive in Somerset breakfast. Excellently kept Cotleigh Tawny and Exmoor ales and top rated malt whiskey collection. Well worth the long and sometimes tortuous drive. No mobile reception - escapist bliss!

Having stayed at The Royal Oak on two previous occasions, we were looking forward to re-visiting for a third. Unfortuntately, other than the Inn being the same building, very little of the previous qualities were in evidence. The most disappointing feature of all was the food which was once superb and locally sourced. It has now sadly been replaced by... More
