We stayed overnight in a spacious refurbished ground floor bedroom . The bed was very comfortable with high quality linen. The bathroom was excellent with waterfall shower. (Wet room). Good choice of reasonably priced dishes for dinner which we had by choice in the bar next to a log fire. Breakfast was also very good. Nothing was to much trouble... More

The new owner is in the midst of extensive refurbishment of the pub. We stayed in one of the new rooms on the ground floor, which was large and delightfully decorated ,with an efficient 'wet room'. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and friendly -particularly as he was dealing with the builders and trying to keep the pub running... More

We had an excellent Exmoor Food Festival dinner with friends as a special price of £15 for three courses. After dinner we relaxed on sofas in the back bar where there is an old radiogram and eclectic collection of LP's from the 60's and 70's. Friendly service and two cosy log fires too...it was February! We did not stay overnight... More

Have loved this place in the past and, with new owners, food is right back to standard. They are still in the process of renovation, so perhaps the side dining room will improve; but, on a cold winter's day, a white box with wooden tables, insufficient heating and little colour might appeal to the minimalists, but put us off. We... More

My fiance and I stayed here way back in August 2013 but I never got around to writing a review about this wonderful place. Even though it was under administration while we were staying there we still found it to be an enjoyable stay. The location is gorgeous, with a thatched cottage across the road and a little stream running... More

I stayed here mid-Dec and have to say it's an excellent example of how to run a pub. My room was recently refurb'ed (they are all being done), nicely done and comfy bed. Dinner was several steps up from "pub grub" and good value. Tasty and fresh cooked full English in the morning. Exmoor Gold just one of the beers... More

I first came to The Royal Oak 30 years ago and have seen it's highs and lows. It is now under new ownership and I have no doubt that very shortly it will be "the place" to go on Exmoor. 6 of us visited for lunch and had great food and drink. Service very friendly and it was very relaxing.... More

What a relief to find that this stunning pub has been taken over by Doug and team! We are local and regularly go out for meals and we have had the pleasure to visit a few times in the last month and have to say the place is going to be hard to beat!... The atmosphere, service, landlord, food, drinks, staff are the... More

As regular visitors to The Oak in the past we were saddened to hear of its problems in early 2013 and to witness the series of poor reviews received whilst it was under administration. As a result we chose to stay away lest our many happy memories of this lovely Inn were tainted forever. Thus we were delighted to read... More

Stayed here on the third night of our Coleridge Way walk and found the hotel and staff most welcoming. The hotel is in the throws of massive refurbishment and update programme but don't let that put you off..... the rooms and facilities are all online and very comfortable. Have to say though in our room (called 'Mischief') there was neither... More
