This hotel was really amazing from the second we got there. The room was excellent, with views over the lake. It was clean and modern too. The staff were very friendly and chatty, provided excellent service and really added to the experience. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the wine was reasonably priced too. I would recommend this... More

My husband and I, together with his brother and their elderly mother stayed here in November last year whilst attending my son's wedding. Mum is quite physically disabled. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and obliging. We had some problems around Mum's disability and her physical needs and, what they didn't have on hand, the staff immediately sourced and... This hotel includes motel-type accommodation, though without the kitchen facilities (there are tea/coffee making facilities, however), so we could park our hire car directly outside the room. The hotel is just off State Highway 6, in a quiet road overlooking beautiful Lake Hawea. Our studio was light and spacious, with a biggish bathroom (with tub), extra beds upstairs and a... More

I dropped in here 'on spec' early evening after a day hike up Isthmus peak , needed somewhere to stopover / escape the lashing storm and dry myself out... the location is great, situated very close to the lake, and in a quiet setting. I was offered either a ensuite hotel room for around $140 , or my own room... More

We trekked around New Zealand for nearly 4 weeks and this hotel was the best place to stay without a doubt. The room we were in was seperated from the main building and had a very private location with an absolutely stunning view. We could have stayed here for days without getting sick of it! Unfortunately it was only a... More

This is a very peaceful place compared to Wanaka. The views from the rooms of the lake are stunningly beautiful with a nice veranda from which to enjoy it (we stayed in the apartment block). The rooms are really clean and nicely furnished - I love the "fly" pictures and merino throws on the beds. Also the manuka toiletries were... More

Absolutely best place in New Zealand!! This was a very nice place to spend our night in Wanaka. The apartment was 2-Story. Our 25-yr old son took the upstairs & we slept downstairs. The view from our balcony was absolutely breath-taking! I rank this as the best place we stayed while in New Zealand (both islands) - mostly because of... More

WE arrived in the evening during high season without having booked anywhere to stay so were delighted to be offered a room in the backpackers block! (The motel we had planned to stay in was closed due to change of ownership) Our 4-bunk room only had a wash basin but the toilets were not too far away, although in a... More

Positives Clean Good value Brilliant location Good dinners (7/10) Fairly friendly staff (apart from the owner who always seemed a little preoccupied) Refurbished in 2011. Negatives Sad breakfast (2/10). If an establishment is going to offer breakfast at a regular rate, then it has to do it properly or not at all. Breakfast was rather sparse (especially the continental). Perhaps... More

Having travelled the North Island and then to the South Island heading for Queenstown via Wanaka pulled off the highway for a toilet break finding Lake Hawea Hotel, 28th and 29th December 2013. In my opinion New Zealand’s best kept secret, stayed 2 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Holly (Restaurant Manager), "Frenchie" and the kitchen team produced some of... More
