We stayed here enroute to the Westcoast. The unit overlooked the lake which was stunning. Room was clean and comfortable. Restaurant was great. Steak was superb and service was great. Friendly staff were excellent to chat to. Recommend the walk along side the lake. Very peaceful.

The hotel rooms and dining area have excellent views over the lake. The rooms were warm and comfortable, even for us four adults sharing. The food in the restaurant was very good (we ate mostly off of the bar menu). It is a small town, and a fishing convention kept the hotel bar very busy on the nights we stayed,... More

Firstly it is important to realise that Lake Hawea Hotel is split on one side of the carpark is a hotel and the other a hostel. We originally booked the hostel side but then I cancelled because of all the negative reviews. I then booked the hotel. The hotel is in the design of 10 single storey motel style rooms.... More

pro: the room was immaculately clean. Cons: The hostel accommodation is in the "lodge".... An afterthought at the back of the car park. Overpriced 4 bed dorms. And the "lodge" comprises of at least 10 hostel type rooms. The rooms are tiny. and it is a very busy hostel. Bearing this in mind there is one 4 hob cooker and... More

We booked a double room with shared kitchen and bathroom. Towels and linen were provided. The shared bathroom was external and the shared kitchen was very small for the amount of guests. We chose this type of accommodation for variety of experience and it was definitely a backpackers, which is what we expected. The only complaint was that the mattress... More

We traveled along the lake and saw the hotel, we inquired and they happened to have a room available. The view of the lake was superb. The room was well appointed, clean, quiet and comfortable. Food at the restaurant was good quality and plentiful. Staff were friendly and helpful. A lucky find.

Our room was spacious and comfortable with a great king bed. The bathroom was modern and functional with a large shower. The view up the lake was sensational and the outdoor deck just the spot for our evening glass of wine. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant and next morning requested eggs on toast which came with a friendly smile.... More

We booked two bedroom in a “two bed dorm” in the backpacker about 20 days before our arriving. When we arrived the hotel the receptionist told us that the room was a “six bed” room and that we had to share it with other four persons. We rebutted that we had a booking confirmed by them and that they didn't... More

We booked a private room at the hostels. After being on the road and at campsites, it was nice to sleep on an actual bed! The place also has free wifi so that was great. The toilet and showers are in a separate building but not too far away. They were clean but a little dark and wet. The bathrooms... More

The hotel is really great situated over the lake. It really calms you down to gaze at the lake. The hotel offers a restaurant, but we went to Wanaka which is a 20 minutes drive away. The hostel (we didn't stay at the hotel as there was no room left) is rather basic. Ten rooms for 4 persons each, a... More
