We booked two bedroom in a “two bed dorm” in the backpacker about 20 days before our arriving. When we arrived the hotel the receptionist told us that the room was a “six bed” room and that we had to share it with other four persons. We rebutted that we had a booking confirmed by them and that they didn't... More

We booked a private room at the hostels. After being on the road and at campsites, it was nice to sleep on an actual bed! The place also has free wifi so that was great. The toilet and showers are in a separate building but not too far away. They were clean but a little dark and wet. The bathrooms... More

The hotel is really great situated over the lake. It really calms you down to gaze at the lake. The hotel offers a restaurant, but we went to Wanaka which is a 20 minutes drive away. The hostel (we didn't stay at the hotel as there was no room left) is rather basic. Ten rooms for 4 persons each, a... More

I am sure that the hotel part of Lake Hawea Hotel is everything that is it stacked up to be. However, the 'lodge' accommodation is terrible and is actually very poor backpacker accommodation. We booked a 'lodge room' which was described as 'private' with shared facilities. We did not stay the night as it turned out the room was not... More

Usually, I trust in the collective wisdom of Trip Advisors, but in this case I must dissent. Our experience here was not pleasant. First, we were not greeted by the then afternoon/night weekend manager, who instead sat with friends or acquaintances in the bar for a few minutes before coming to check us in. Then, the room had quite worn... More

What a find. We were so lucky to get the last room and had not expected the amazing lake view that greeted us when we opened the front door. Great walks around the lake. Really peaceful Good evening meal. Continental breakfast disappointing, lack of choice and poor quality however the rest of the family enjoyed a hearty cooked breakfast.

Lake Hawea hotel was one of our best hotel choices in New Zealand. With all the rooms facing out onto the Lake Hawea, it was extremely relaxing and beautiful. The rooms were large and spacious. Attractions were a 10 to 15 minute drive away, so the location was quite convenient. I feel lake hawea hotel was a great choice and... More

It is an enjoyable and relaxing stay at Lake Hawea Hotel. Lake Hawea is a small residential town 40 min drive from Wanaka. Enjoying our coffee at the balcony , overlooking the stunning lake view in the day. We thought we are lucky to have such a nice lake view , the starry night view is far more spectaculas ,... More

we arrived weary after a long bad weather drive, and then the clouds cleared as we pulled into the car park. The refurbished room was great but the views of the snow capped mountains surrounding the lake were incredible. The dinner was delicious and the staff incredibly helpful and friendly. One of the best hotel stays ever. No problem recommending... More

Although it's only a minute from the main road, Lake Hawea Hotel is a peaceful haven with stunning views up the lake from its rooms and from the restaurant. We had a lovely, large room with full length windows, super-king, very comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom, all freshly refurbished and in top condition. They served an excellent meal and...
