Words can't describe our delight about our 3 day stay. On entering the gatehouse you are transported back to the 15th to 16th century. There are not the modern conveniences there but they provide electricity and heating in the guest part of the castle. The real excitement comes when you pass through the door from the breakfast room into the... more

This is one of the most memorable places to spend a night. No mints on your pillows here, and if that is what you are looking for this isn't the place for you. But if you enjoy history, romance, and someplace a little different, this is it. This is a castle built about 1500, and it is restored not to... more

My boyfriend and I stayed for a long weekend because we wanted to stay in a castle somewhere. We stayed in the Kings room with a huge four poster and it was absolutely fantastic. All the furniture was antique and the breakfast was really fit for a King! There were log fires and it was one of the most romantic... more

Not satisfied with the typical "tour operators" going from one predictable hotel to another, we found Gwydir online and took a chance. Thank goodness we did! We visited Llanrwst... more

Gwydir Castle is a hauntingly beautiful place which has a definite spooky atmosphere. Stayed for two nights on B&B basis. The rooms are furnished in keeping with the ancient feel of the building - do not expect mod cons such as TV etc. The doors and floor creak and groan, the bath tilts at an angle, and the shadows keep... more

Wow!!! What a find!! We had a glorious time at the castle. This was our third trip to North Wales and love this area. My family comes from Capel Curig, not far away and we certainly found a gem with Gwydir Castle. The owners have done a fabulous job getting the castle back to the way it should be -... more

The Welford's and their castle truly welcome one into the atmosphere of living in a slower, more peaceful time when folks enjoyed their gardens, the sunsets, the tea times and peacocks! The experience of staying in the Duke of Beaufort's room was unique and very comfortable. The town of Llanrwst and the nearby hillsides are picturesque. We watched, spellbound, as... more
