Gwydir Castle is my favorite castle in the British Isles. As a tour guide to the UK and Ireland I have been honored to visit many castles. Each have their own beauty but Gwydir Castle is special. It has a spirit of place that Judy and Peter, the owners who restored the castle, have wisely allowed the B&B guests to... more

We stayed at Gwydir two nights, and I agree with all the previous reviews. Peter and Judy are wonderful hosts, and the house is amazing to explore and learn about. My husband and I both read Judy's book, Castles In the Air, prior to our trip, and it was great to see what we had read so much about. The... more

I wanted to treat my husband to a really special weekend to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, and found Gwydir on line. Having read the other reviews my expectations were high, but the reality exceeded all of them. The surrounding landscape is awsome, and the welcome was warm, both from the Welfords and their charming dogs. The castle itself is... more

We stayed in the Duke of Beaufort's Room which is smaller, and less impressive than the King's Room, but is perhaps cosier. Gwydir is a delight and it rare within these isles to stay B&B in such a beautiful and historic house that is still evidently someone's home. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The antique furnishings and decor worked... more

“Authentic” rather than “grand” is the adjective that I would choose to describe the 15th century manor house of Gwydir Castle. Nothing could trasport one back to the Late Middle Ages more than this home. Without all the modern embellishments, one can traipse the groove-worn stone steps to Meridith’s Hall, stand within, yes within, the great fireplace of the Solar... more

When Three friends and I were planning our Trip to the Uk, we decided that we wanted to play "princess" and stay in a castle for at least one night. I was very disapointed to discover that most of the castles that took on paying guests were more like fancy hotels than storybook castles. Fortunately I happened to stumble on... more

Words can't describe our delight about our 3 day stay. On entering the gatehouse you are transported back to the 15th to 16th century. There are not the modern conveniences there but they provide electricity and heating in the guest part of the castle. The real excitement comes when you pass through the door from the breakfast room into the... more

This is one of the most memorable places to spend a night. No mints on your pillows here, and if that is what you are looking for this isn't the place for you. But if you enjoy history, romance, and someplace a little different, this is it. This is a castle built about 1500, and it is restored not to... more

My boyfriend and I stayed for a long weekend because we wanted to stay in a castle somewhere. We stayed in the Kings room with a huge four poster and it was absolutely fantastic. All the furniture was antique and the breakfast was really fit for a King! There were log fires and it was one of the most romantic... more

My mother and I view travel as an opportunity to find something a little less ordinary. Gwydir Castle perfectly suited us, and I hope others will get to enjoy its charm. Not satisfied with the typical "tour operators" going from one predictable hotel to another, we found Gwydir online and took a chance. Thank goodness we did! We visited Llanrwst... more
