We haven't stayed here but eat quite regularly in the bar/bar lounge area. Service is always excellent, food great and the early bird specials, 2 courses for £9.99 and 3 courses for £11.99 are unbeatable value around Banchory. Definitely worth a visit.

Liked the look of Banchry so decided to stop on way home to Aberdeen. Only hotel with rooms available, check-in staff very helpful. Once we saw the room it went downhill, mattress looked like a futon on and bed appeared to be uncomfortable. We did try to change rooms but only a twin available and didn't want that. But wow... Pleasant staff, helpful receptionist. The room (double) was spacious enough though as mentioned in other reviews, could do with a little upkeep. Opening the window in the bathroom revealed a sealed off area of brick and rubble. The weather outside was muggy and the room was far too warm, with no obvious means of cooling it down. The bed was... More

I have eaten here on many occasions and always found the food to be of an excellent quality. Staff have always been so very attentive and helpful. The owner Mr Ross and his assistant Kirsty lead their team well. Mr Ross can be slightly eccentric , but in a good way ! Would defiantly recommend the Douglas Arms. I also... More

I have mixed feelings writing this review. The staff are quite good and friendly, the pub is a nice place for a beer but the rooms are just shocking. We had room 4 and as the photos show the bathroom is past rescue. Broken tiles on the floor, a water heater from 1982, a squeaky double bed and walls so... More

I got booked here with work as it was a Tuesday and all of my usual hotels in Aberdeen were booked out as it was oil changeover day. I was a little bit concerned as some of the reviews here were not so good - however, I was pleasantly surprised. Right from the word go, staff were friendly and helpful... More

Poor welcome on arrival. Tv in room kept cutting off. Could feel every spring in the mattress on the bed. Took 10 minutes running tap before hot water came through. No wardrobe in room. Paid for breakfast on arrival was advised to be down for 7.45am but when I went down there was nobody there and no sign of any... More

Management response:

As Tripadvisor refused to post my initial response, Ill keep this one short. I hope the reviewer feels a little remorse when his credit card statement comes in and he realises that at no point did we take payment for his stay, by way of an apology for extenuating circumstances, however his opinion means nothing to me as he clearly... The staff were friendly and tried hard. DA has a great location BUT .......Rooms were dirty and cheaply furnished. TV kept cutting out, water kept stopping when taps were running and bathroom hAd the feature of mould in all the cracks. Bedding was dirty , net curtains ripped and wallpaper pealing . the skirting boards and mouldings on doors were... More

Management response:

This guest arrived with us at tea time on the 11th of March and before she had even checked in she tried to renegotiate the rate she had agreed on the phone. She then aired her her disappointment at being in the area at all, as her company had put her on a course that she didn't want to be... More

We eat here the other day as we were passing through. We were given a very warm welcome by the owner Steven. He was most helpful. We had just planned to have a coffee but after seeing the menu we ate. The food was wonderful. My wife had steak pie which was great. I had the Venison which was cooked... More
