We booked Laundry Cottage, in the lovely grounds of Farlam Hall, for our wedding anniversary and can honestly say it was one of the best places we have stayed in. There are 2 bedrooms, each with their own en suite bath and shower room (each has underfloor heating) and super king size beds. The house is warm, well-furnished, spotlessly clean... More

WE booked for dinner for my wife's birthday as Farlam Hall was recommended by my cousin as being very good. I requested a table for 19:30 but was told that "We dine at eight" which took me back a bit. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and shown into a very luxurious lounge, tastefully decorated in traditional... More

The last time we stayed at Farlam Hall was in 1998 to celebrate my Father's 80th Birthday, this visit to was celebrate my 65th. If anything Farlam Hall was even more beautiful than I remembered and the facilities and service were absolutely first class. Our room was delightful, especially the amazing bathroom, we had a view over the grounds although... More

Only 12 guest suites are available in this spacious, quiet and comfortable "country house hotel" — which is positioned somewhere between an upmarket B&B and a boutique hotel. Affiliated with the Relais & Châteaux association, it follows the standards of that group in offering gourmet dining, and a somewhat formal and gracious style of hospitality. Farlam Hall is, indeed, an... More

Returning to Farlam Hall after a gap of ten years it did not take me long to regret not having returned sooner. A warm welcome, a top notch room with a myriad of thoughtful extras , delightful grounds soon out one at ease. Dinner was well above the two rosette standard ( how misleading the AA classification can be) and... More

After a 6 hour drive from South Wales we were hoping for a friendly welcome and a cold drink. Despite being busy with a wedding reception we received both and were shown to a very comfortable room. Our hosts were perfect - very genteel and everything done with quiet efficiency and class. After a quick visit to nearby Lanercost Priory... More

This was at least our fourteenth stay in this hotel of charm, faultless service and care of every detail. The food is excellent including the outstanding breakfasts and the cheeseboard. There is a charm about the place that makes you feel comfortable and cossetted.

A beautiful property in lovely gardens, not too far from the M6 to be a good stopping off point on a journey, but also a destination in its own right. Also a good base from which to explore Hadrian's Wall and return at the end of the day to collapse into luxurious comfort. The welcome is warm and friendly and... More

A potentially difficut review to write because while this is a good, if not great, hotel; it would not necessarily suit everyone. Situated in the north east of Cumbria, not too far from the Northumberland border and in Hadrian's Wall country, this hotel represents English hospitaliy at its best. From the moment you arrive the staff and owners are concerned... More

Lovely hotel, great staff, good food, the most comfortable beds, well-equipped rooms catering for every need, peace and quiet, old-fashioned charm, convenient for a stop off on the way to Scotland. A random choice on our way to Skye. A deliberate choice on our way back. Just don't tell everyone or there'll be no room for us next year.
