Sorry - but this doesn't fulfil our usual criterion of "would we come again?" Not this one. The 'festive season special' was certainly a bargain price-wise but it was one of the tiredest pieces of sea bass I've seen in a long time. There was a brave attempt at presentation but it wasn't executed very well. The 'chef' appeared at... More

Passed through Thursday night to meet some friends and enjoyed a lovely evening of jazz at the Howard's, food was exceptional, we had the sea bass and the lamb cutlets, we even attempted desserts .... great, homemade, this place is always worth a visit when passing through, thanks.

Six people in on a Wednesday lunchtime? It didn't bode well. However, the chap in charge seemed eager to please and was very friendly. The beer was fine, the menu - we chose from a specials board - was standard fayre with one or two exceptions. We chose 2 for £11.95: Cumberland sausage with apple sauce and chips plus a... More

I stopped in here on the way back from a business trip and as soon as I walked through the front door I felt like I was in my own living room. The smiles from all staff and attentiveness was exceptional. I ordered a simple steak and ale pie seeing as it's generally a safe bed when on the road... More

I've reviewed this excellent value hotel before, and stayed there again last week. I'd like to add to my previous praise, that the breakfast really is as good as anywhere. After the self-service selection of cereals, yoghurts, fruit juices and fresh fruit, the full "English" breakfast is served, consisting of fried egg on fried bread, bacon, sausage, black pudding, haggis,... This must be our fourth visit since the new ownership, rooms are clean, comfortable, courtesy tea & coffee tray, welcome fruit basket on arrival, flat screen satellite TV, still top standards....staff very attentive, good food choice....value....will return, always worth a stopover, keep the good work.

Nice staff but room needs some TLC as very dated and not well maintained. Curtains hanging off the rail, cobwebs and the lights tripped the whole floor ! Bathroom mouldy and bath handles positively dangerous (loose and badly repaired). Had the Sunday roast - it was inedible, did tell them but they just shrugged. Husband's curry was ok.

stopped off at brampton, coming back from Scotland to Newcastle, went in for a lunchtime meal. we both ordered Lamb Roast of the day, the lamb was tough, I struggled to get knife through to cut it, we really needed a steak knife, there was only 4 small roasties, peas, carrots and 2 yorkshires for £10.95 . Not what i... More

We had a prearranged arrival time but we were a bit late, however this didn't cause a problem. Nice welcome, efficient staff who all seemed very involved with the running of the hotel. Nice beds, clean room, maybe a bit outdated. The rooms were named after Charles Dickens characters. Food acceptable but nothing special. Entertainment in the bar on Saturday... More
