Went to the Penhelig last night for a meal having been on numerous other occasions, once again, the food was excellent, however, the service was atrocious, only one person on the bar and one taking food orders with a couple of runners collecting and delivering. No one asked for our drink order so we ordered at the bar, see above,... More

Really looked forward to this trip but reasonable expectations were not met. I think guests should be warned when booking about the two flights of steep, awkward stairs. I have limited mobility and the stairs were a nightmare. We were in a 'small double', room 8. It is really a small single. Other reviews have mentioned the difficulty of getting... More

My first time to this little village and to this hotel. The hotel is clean and the staff so friendly, they can not do enough for you. Rooms are large and the views incredible. There is a lovely balcony area where you can sit with a drink and look out to sea and enjoy a glass of wine. The food... More

Just back from a lovely stay at the hotel, beautiful views over the estuary from the bedroom window, the staff are very helpful and even carried our bags up the narrow stairs. We ate in the hotel on two nights and could not fault the food or the service, and the sharing pudding platter was to die for. The breakfast... More

I booked this with a Travelzoo package for a quiet break for my boyfriends birthday in February. We had such a lovely break, the rooms were comfortable, the village quiet and the food in the pub and restaurant downstairs was outstanding (we dined here for 2 nights). Would definitely recommend.

Booked room 15 in the annexe which had a patio and glorious views. Room very spacious, bed huge and a shower to die for. Unfortunately CD player not working , and no remote for the TV, this was reported to staff, but we're unable to rectify. We also had no WIFI in the annnexe, had to go to the main... More

While staying in the area on holiday we came for a meal on 3 July. While our friends meals were good, my husband and I chose traditional fish and chips. The fish was thin, overcooked and dry and the batter soggy. The chips were supposed to be special twice fried but were very ordinary. The " mushy " peas were... More

such an amazing place on the shoreline of the dovey estuary.......just amazing! We had a coffee in the front lounge in the morning and decided to book for our evening meal at the Penhelig as it had won various awards for food....and the menu looked fab! Aberdovey on a sunny day is great, wonderful scenery and a lovely jubbly little... More

Being locals - we live just opposite 'The Pen' - it is our favourite regular haunt once again. After a few years in the wilderness when Brains Brewery messed up - happy to report that since Phil the new manager was brought in The Pen is now back to its former glory. The staff are really obliging and it is... More

We have stayed here many times over the years including when it was privately owned prior to Brains Brewery taking it over.We have always enjoyed our stays until March when we had a number of issues with service (the food has always remained brilliant!). We returned to try here again last week for 2 nights and our stay was thoroughly... More
