Water pressure is so low that the toilet hardly flushes, then you have to wait 20 mins before flushing again. Having a shower is a nightmare as only a trickle and fluctuats between freezing cold then scorching hot.

A group of us stayed here for a friend's wedding. For £115 per night we were expecting somewhere that was at least clean, had a functioning shower and flushing toilet. The decor is very dated and the rooms were dark and many areas could have done with a good clean/paint/regrout. The bathroom very basic and there was no plug socket... More

The room was a bit tired looking but the food was lovely, it did the job of a nice place to sleep and return to in the lovely town. The staff were very helpful as I had to get directions to the hotel and then to the car park! The evening meal was delicious.

A bit old and tired. Some rooms have been refurbished, as was ours, nice bathroom and bedroom fittings, but mattress very hard, but some guests may like that. Very hot night and we had an electric fan, but our friends in another room did not and could not stand the heat as their window didn't open ! Floor boards creaked... More

It all depends on how high your expectations are and which room you get put in. We stay here often for business. Don't ask for an omelette for breakfast, chef doesn't know how to make one! It is dated but is being upgraded, it's clean and I like a firm bed so will do me.

A group of us met at the Royal Oak for drinks, when I asked for a lime and soda I was told they didn't sell soda, when I asked what they served with a white wine spritzer or a scotch and soda I was told "sparkling water " soda was not available I was then charged for a full bottle... More

Rarely write reviews but this was awful, £125 for one night in an' executive double' on the second floor. All the way up the stairs the paintwork is battered and marked, the carpet is bare in places, just outside our room the paint was peeling off the wall to match the peeling wallpaper inside, two single beds pushed together and... I stayed here in July as friends were getting married nearby and this hotel was on their suggested places to stay list. I wish I had booked somewhere else, the room was a bit tired and the bed was so uncomfortable that I think you would have been more comfortable on the floor. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles,... I don't usually write reviews, but I feel compelled to do so after staying at this place because it is probably the most overpriced hotel I have ever stayed at. For the condition of the rooms and hotel interiors it should be half the price it is. The room was extremely dark and dingy despite it being a sunny day.... More
