We had high expectations for the White Swan but unfortunately we had a run of really poor experiences. Firstly, we stayed in room 1 which is at the front of the inn and even though the we were told (via an e-Mail disclaimer) that we might experience 'some' traffic / pedestrian noise at night, what weren't told, is that the... We stayed here as part of a group on a reunion long weekend. There are rooms in the main building, or in the courtyard (where we stayed) which are big and nicely furnished. We had a minor issue with the underfloor heating which we didn't seem to be able to control so the room got very hot, and would suggest... More

It's a kinda interestingly different place. The front bar area is a little dark and old-style pub (ish) with a decent bar (a couple of real ales) but nothing to write home about. The rooms (in the main building) are accessed up a narrow set of stairs (no lift) and we had an odd sort of 2-level room (Room 1)... More

Just returned from a two night break, with husband and teenage daughter. Good welcome. Beautiful rooms 11and 12, very well kept. Breakfast was plentiful and good choices, full English through to fish and kedgeree. Had an evening meal with friends who joined us and this was very good British food cooked well and served right. We will definitely be back.

We stayed here (for the 2nd time this year!) for a rather significant birthday of mine. Once again, the whole experience was wonderful. The room, the food, the general atmosphere, the food, the room, the wine and did I mention the room and food? We have been fortunate enough to visit the Swan quite a few times over the years... On our hols - Walked in here on Saturday 2 adults 2 children for tea at 6:30pm. A couple of people in bar area, no one in restaurant. Wanted to sit in the outside patio area. Told fully booked!! Pity as the place is nice inside, shame about attitude of the two ladies who worked in the restaurant, obviously didn't... More

I have recently spent a night here and the room itself, the service, menu and food were brilliant. I was pleasantly surprised by the parking, which for an old building in the middle of a town was excellent, even for a large vehicle! The hideaway lounge where you could serve your own drinks with an honesty bar, was calm and... More

My wife and I visited the White Swan for a third time and this time we stayed on a DBB basis and I really wished we had dined here before now! Everything about this hotel is spot-on - from the friendly welcome at check-in to the fabulous service in the bar and restaurant. The staff at the White Swan really... More

We went to the White Swan for a long weekend as we were attending the Pickering steam rally in August. The hotel is a traditional coaching inn with modern facilities. Our room was very nice with a comfortable large bed and lovely bedding. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. However on returning to the hotel one afternoon we decided... More

We booked a two-night stay via an offer on Secret Escapes and were not disappointed. The bedroom was in the separate block at the back of the hotel and you'd have to be very picky to find fault with it. Very nicely decorated, comfortable bed, lovely bathroom. When we arrived we had what was classed as a mini afternoon tea... More
