Visited here for our wedding anniversary, And it's just lovely. Right next to the castle and free parking out front which is a huge bonus. It's old and quirky inside and full of character. Staff are very friendly. We stayed in room 2. It was clean and comfortable. Also small and quirky which personally we loved. With excellent views! Alot... More

My husband and I stayed at the Portcullis in March a couple years ago. We were haphazardly travelling around the country by car and stumbled in on a blustery day for some coffee and ended up staying for a night and driving back from the highlands just to eat at the restaurant one last time before heading back to Canada.... The Hotel is located just below Stirling Castle, at the top of the main hill - great location (if you're fit !). There are a handful of parking spaces at the front, which were all occupied with lunchtime guests when we arrived at 2.30pm but one of the staff kindly offered to move her car out and let me in,... Our trip to Scotland was amazing and staying at Portcullis was part of the allure. Our Scottish friends recommended we stay there and they steered us to a lovely experience. Jamie and all of the staff were wonderful. The food was delicious and the staff had a willingness to accommodate special food needs: gluten free, vegetarian, etc. The location is... More

Stayed at this fantastic base over New Year 2012 - Jim and Lynn are fantastic hosts who made us feel very welcome. This hotel has a fantastic menu and the food is amazing. I have to say, I love the steaks. We spent New Year 2011/12 here and had our wee Bichon Frise puppy with us which wasn't a problem... More

Stayed at the Portcullis to break up a long drive from Inverness to Gloucester. This hotel has the most incredible character. It's an 18th century grammar school right up against the castle. The views out over Stirling are incredible. The rooms are cosy and well looked after. The restaurant is comfortable and the food is good but definitely Glasgow style.... More

Attached to Stirling Castle, Scotland, fantastic accommodations, outstanding food, superb service and the pub, well, I've died and gone to heaven. Make sure you pick room #1 for the best view of the castle.

After travelling to Loch Awe for a few nights, we decided to stay in Stirling for a night to break up the journey home. The Portcullis Hotel is right next door to the castle and has amazing views of the town. On arrival we found that all the parking bays were full as unfortunately people park in front of the... More

Stayed there in Sept 2014 and loved it. Lots of value for the money, very unique setting, formally an old school. Directly next to the castle. Twisting narrow staircases add to the charm, do not go if you're expecting a cookie cutter hotel. This place is special, mainly because of Jamie and his staff. They make you feel like family.

We went here on the recommendation of locals. The service was very friendly and efficient. The meal was lovely and there was plenty of attention to detail with the decoration on the plate. We had tried to get in here a couple of weeks ago but it was fully booked. It does appear to be a busy place so we... More
