I stayed in Golden Lion Hotel in July, 2014 with family. We checked in in the evening around 7 and asked for a double room with an extra bed with an advanced reservation. Staff in reception showed her attitude friendly and passionately, however, unfortunately, incapable. We were waiting for an extra bed, another cup and another set of towel over... More

The hotel is beautiful when you walk into the front door and the reception bar area. After you enter the lift or as you go up the stairs it becomes a little dated. When we came out the lift we were greeted by a damp musky smell. Walking along the corridors to our room was exactly the same. We were... More

Did not stay here - called in for lunch whilst visiting the town. Lovely traditional dining room - formal but relaxed. Waited on by Eva who was polite and efficient. Good value lunch menu - husband loved the home made steak pie - packed with good quality meat. Would definitely recommend for lunch!

I stayed here recently on a business trip. From outside the Hotel looked very traditional and the welcome at reception was good. From here it didn't quite live up to expectations. My room was slightly on the small side. The view outside was non existent, looking at a roof with netting covering a drop which just contained rubbish. It looked... More

Tricky to get to the parking lot, which is hidden in the wall of a pedestrian friendly street! Please make note of this before you arrive! Also, from parking lot to the reception area you will have to carry all your luggage up stairs. No elevator available. This is an old building and quite a convenient location to quickly walk... More

We did have an extremely good rate and free parking, but the room had a fixed window without screening and overlooked by others. The shower room towel rail was never heated so it was a bit parky. Another guest complained at reception so this must be a common fault. The only sockets for the hostess tray kettle were at the... More

We arrived just before the Bannockburn Live and Armed Forces Day celebrations, and enjoyed our stay of 4 nights. Reception was welcoming and efficient, and our en-suite room was spacious and clean, apart from a small bag of rubbish overlooked (presumably) after cleaning the room following the previous occupancy! Also, one of the wardrobe's 2 sliding doors was immoveable and... More

Stayed here for one night June 2014. We were unaware it was the armed forces celebration day so there were people everywhere. Room was small but quiet. Loved the old period character of the place. Restaurant staff excellent. There was some function on in the evening and there were about 10 kids running full pelt around reception/ stairs area which... More
