Please ignore visiting in aug 2013,could not go back any further.I visited this place for my brothers wedding 22 years ago,and nothing has changed since, not even the carpets or decor.I live in Southport, and can only say that this place is an eyesore, and would not send my mother-in-law there, rest her soul,it has been falling backwards for a few years now,and as... Been again to the Prince of Wales as it's superb value for money and is set on the main shopping street (lord street) with its wonderful canopies, The building is very architectural and is from a bygone era, it does require some updates as do most places nowadays but this doesn't detract from its character, There is an absolutely beautiful... We are pretty well travelled and used to the ups and downs of accommodation. Sadly the hotel has definitely seen better days; it's tired and lacks many modern conveniences and even lacks fresh air due to not being able to properly open the stuck painted windows. The bed and bed linen were poor quality, lacking any sign of 'luxury'. If... More

We booked this break through Groupon it was extremely good value for money the place was clean and the room had everything you need however the public rooms are tired looking and the food option on the evening was dismal the second evening we ate at a local restaurant, the breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful and... We stayed 20/07/2014 for one night on the wine DBB deal which cost £55.00. When we arrived it was a very hot day and was allocated a room with no windows or fan, went to reception and spoke too Lucy, with no fuss gave us another room which was a lot better. The food for evening meal & breakfast was... More

Don’t go there if you are younger than 85. It is back to the 19th century. No Wi-Fi, no telephone, back to basics. The worst hotel in more than 30 years. I regularly stayed in this hotel 25 years ago on business trips. Then it was one of the best hotels in town. Therefore we decided to book this hotel... More

I've known this hotel for years, it always looks grand but how much has it slipped into one of the worst hotels ever. First As a paying guest you would expect the use of the car park, well you can if its not full with general public parking there for free. So you have to find a pay and display... More

We recently spent a weekend in this rather grand Hotel, and yes, it's decor, furniture and staff lived up to its name , however why on earth they don't pay attention to the welfare and comfort of clientele . We are pensioners and were given a room that we needed to climb three stairs to the en-suite the mattresses were... More

I know that you have to compromise when you stay in an old hotel but there are limits, I booked a standard double, and didn't expect too much for £49 b&b, The room however, when we found it, was the smallest ever. The valance on the bed was FILTHY and the room needed a good clean, There were 4 lamps.... More

First impression was 'in need of refurbishment'. The room was fine, clean and spacious including a small sitting area. The shower was excellent but lack of ventilation meant the bathroom turned into a sauna very quickly. The temperature during the night became unbearable, the windows were sealed so there was no possibility of relief there. Friends had a similar experience... More
