An advert outside for Sunday lunch prompted us to go and watch the football match ,have a drink from the bar ,followed by lunch. We entered through quaint revolving doors into a shabby lounge area with dirty ripped sun faded chairs , scratched tables and a carpet which could have done with a road sweeper. A guest nearby asked us... More

Its a great location next to shops and the fair but thats all really.no greetings on arrival and basically waiting around to be dealt with.its not catered for children and seems to be used more by the older generation.which is fine but there is nothing for kids to do. No entertainment apart for some dodgy dance room that nobody went... More

We have stayed before and it was fine but I feel that the hotel standards have dropped - we did get a late DBB deal but you still should expect basics to be right - the room we had was fine a little dated but clean, beds though very uncomfortable - the decor and general upkeep of public areas are... We have stayed in a Britannia hotel before so given what we paid (which was very cheap) we didn't expect too much. On arrival there weren't any parking spaces left so had to park on the street and pay, but a space became free so we quickly moved the car. We booked a family room (2 adults and 2 children)... More

This is quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The corridors, including the pipes on display look like something out of a horror film. Rude staff (the rudest ever experienced) and the food was vile. Luckily I was out for drinks which meant I didn't have to stay long at this hotel but I can not stress... More

the hotel, needs updating but that would not have been a problem but the bar and waiting staff were surly and with attitude. Kept waiting at the bar whilst barman mopped the floor and surly when I was served, No Chardonnay at the ballroom bar and the barman refused to go and get some from one of the other bars. No... More

The pictures make it look wonderful, but it was rather shabby, there were not enough staff on reception or the bar, we ate across the road at Wetherspoons because other guests told us the service was slow and the food was "not good". Our bedroom was rather small and had pigeons cooing outside but the window was opaque and would... More

Stayed over 2 weekends while visiting family in Merseyside area. Saddened by the way it's lost the grandeur it once had, even from visiting it only 20yrs prior. The rooms were clean and tidy, bed not the best and old style tv. Disliked the 'bingo' posters and cheap signage of 'monthly offers' however this hotel offers fantastic value. Our second... More

Should be advertised as a pensioners hotel. Once you enter, it becomes apparent you have just entered Gods waiting room. Hotel would have been a grand hotel years ago! Reception staff pleasant. Waiting on staff miserable as sin. Food edible but when it runs out it's tough luck. It is suited to over 70's I have stayed in a lot... More

Having read previous reviews my wife and i were pessimistic about our stay, as part of the grand national weekend coach trip. The hotel is in need of an modern update but in its heyday it would have been a class act. Our room on the first floor was clean and tidy, the furniture would have been modern in the... More
