I stopped here as part of a Golf party and found the hotel very good, we did however somehow end up with the Balmoral Suite and it was lovely, i can't comment on other suites, the breakfast buffet was fine, the hotel is dated but it is Victorian, if you want ultra modern the go to a Travel lodge, the... more

Quite simply, rather sad. It quite literally took over 30 minutes to check in (there was one person in front of me, and it seemed that the queue was a real problem). Having finally succeeded, it took a long walk to find the room, which was clean but rather basic. Overall the hotel had a feel of a place that... more

Went to Southport unexpectedly and booked in for two nights DBB. I normally read the tripadvisor comments first but couldn't under the circumstances. Wish that I had!! I agree with all the comments made already. The provision of the meals is a joke and I am sure does not meet health criteria, being left open to the elements and fingers... more

I have had the misfortune of staying in this hotel once before and we were booked in here as the hotel we had expected to stay in was not ready. No words could have prepared my wife for how awful this hotel is. The corridors leading to the rooms were from a horror movie and the matress in the room,... more

My wife looked forward to a few days break at this hotel - it proved to be a disappintment The hotel badly needs refurbishing - it is old & tatty & needs a good clean - I doubt if the windows have been cleaned for a year The bedroom needed decorating but the worst part was finding a "mat" under... more

This was our 3rd stay here, not from choice, but as part of a large regular event. It was actually better than previos years, but still not a hotel I would choose for myself. They have actually given the place a lick of paint and the revolving entrance is slightly less unsightly. However, the dining room needs closing down completly.... more

For the price the room we had at this hotel was a joke. The reception area is lovely, old English, charming style. The room we got had a view over a filthy back yard. The mattress in the bed was in bits and the furniture was old and warn. The TV had five channels. We went down and demanded a... more

I should imagine that in its heyday the Prince of Wales was the most prestigious hotel in the area. It still has a grand and elegant exterior but once through the doors and into the foyer the air of faded grandeur turns to one of neglect. The whole place is in need of serious re-furbishment but more seriously is the... more

I have read all the reviews with interest and in hindsight wish I had read them before booking. We last stayed at this hotel 30 years ago and were very impressed. On arrival we were rather surprised to have a room in the semi-basement, as we were not warned about this on booking. However the room was clean and roomy.... more

My wife and I stayed over for a 4 night break in September, also playing golf at Formby and Formby Ladies and visiting some of the places we used to go when we lived in the uk, so we thought it would be a good base for us. It's central and easy to get to, although we hired a car... more
