We stayed over a Morris danicng weekend. Owners very helpful and friendly. Breakfast good. Room (up 56 stairs) had a lovely sea view. Towels, sheets etc very clean. Property stuck in an 80's time warp and could do with some decluttering and decorating.

Well the Avalon is an average B & B. The whole place is a little dated, think 1980's. The décor needs a good deal of improvement, as it looks a little tired and overused. We had a top floor, with the toilet and shower cupboard separate from each other. A double room with sea view had been booked for us,... More

I visited with friends on a walking holiday in June. What a great guest house!. Really well run and friendly. Great location and a really interesting building. One morning I managed to break the shower fixing. They were so nice about it and when we came in, in the evening it was fixed! Very good value for money and loads... More

My wife and I enjoyed a two night stay here just before Easter and found plenty of things about Avalon to recommend. The booking process was good, with a special request for the best sea view being accommodated. Check in was straightforward and we had keys enabling us to come and go as we pleased. The views in room 2,... More

Stayed here recently so that I could spend the next day on Lundy island. What a nice place! I like the room, I like the location but most of all I like the people. The place is run by a charming couple who couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Thanks for a lovely visit. Michael Drain

Just returned from 3 days stay at The Avalon in Ilfracombe, superb location right on the waters edge, with stunning open sea views. Very central for exploring Ilfracombe too, lots of restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance. Took advantage of the under cover parking option as weather at bit rough. Dudley and Anne (owners) are very welcoming and nothing... More

The location is good, although parking could be difficult at busy times. The house is dated and could do with a lick of paint inside and out. Yet the warm and humorous welcome can not be beaten . Enjoyed our time looking around ilfracombe. Slept ok, breakfast basic English , no frills, but well cooked, hubby did spot that we... More

Ask for sea view which is relaxing and quiet. Good location near the harbour and the coastal path. Although rated average I would happily stay here again. For very good I would expect a smarter decor and a better bathroom. Fine breakfast, traditional and welcoming hosts. Lots of stairs, but coastal path hikers don't complain about going uphill.

It was, the stay, the service it wa just fab in many ways! The breakfast is better than my local cafe it was literally amazing. The location is fabulous with a small beach which is revealed round the corner when the tide is out. Literally a short walk to the harbour and the sea front. Right on the coastal foot... More

Having read previous reviews, I wonder if they were actually staying at The Avalon. Our first impression was a musty odour which thankfully didn't reach our room. We had a pleasant welcome from Sue and were shown to our room on the first floor. We found scaffolding across the window but this was not mentioned when we booked three weeks... More
