A delightful small hotel, perfectly located for walking. Excellent for pets and very welcoming. Staff very attentive and helpful, they made it a wonderful break. The rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable. The Scottish breakfast was delicious

...it is not my experience. The following is factual. I was aware of a dank smell on check in. The bedroom is tiny, the bed is squeaky and lumpy, both taps in the bathroom sink run hot, the floor has bath sealant round the edges.TV has only three channels and wifi only near reception. Drinks are expensive as is the... More

Had lunch several times and always received a nice welcome with our dogs who are allowed in the carpeted areas of the bar which suited us as it was nice and quiet, looking over garden and the red squirrels. Food good, decent portions, price a bit on the high side but not too bad. Would definitely recommend as a good... More

I think we went to a different restaurant to the ones reviewed on here or we went on an extremely bad night but the food we had here was absolutely appalling. It took us 45mins to get our starters ( which was 2 soups! ) then came the mains another 20mins later. I had the steak pie with my boyfriend... More

I was really looking forward to coming to stay here, having visited many times over the years. My husband and I were looking for a quiet Friday night getaway where we could enjoy some lovely red wine & drinks over a nice meal - nothing fancy, just a comfy bed, good food and fine wine. I checked availability on line... More

Fine restaurant, good rooms and well placed for touring. .Service level was excellent. The rooms are comfortable. It's a bit tucked away from anywhere but it's a good location for the area. We enjoyed our stay .Wifi is available in the main bar area but the construction of the building does not allow it elsewhere.

We stayed there with friends for one night recently. There was a friendly welcome on arrival, but when we were shown to our room, the view was disappointing. We had paid extra for a river view and most of our view was of a roof. The afternoon tea was also disappointing, in that the scones seemed like they were old... More

Thank you for your review. We apologise that the view from your room was not to your liking, all our superior rooms look out over the river side of the hotel, but each room has a slightly different view. We also regret that you did not enjoy your scones, and hope this will not put you off from visiting us... More

The fantastic staff make this average hotel very special! They were so helpful, thoughtful and kind! Try and speak to Bob, he has a superb knowledge of Scottish History and is very interesting. Nice bar area to relax and have a drink in.
