We have just returned from spending a week at The Fernside. We have stayed several times over the last 7 years and are never disappointed. The rooms are spotlessly clean with towels, toiletries (including a vanity kit and individually wrapped shower caps) and tea/coffee making facilities provided, along with biscuits and bottled water. A great choice at breakfast, the Full... More

For a welcoming and friendly small hotel in a town with many attractions it would be hard to beat The Fernside. Within 2 minutes walk of the local convenience shop and only a few minutes walk from the beach, Sandown Pier and a bustling street of cafés and souvenir shops the hotel is well situated. About half a mile away... More

Been to this hotel before. The welcoming staff, great breakfasts and great location, were some of the reasons for our return. Again, another warm welcome by Laurie. The breakfasts were still great and a varied selection on offer. The bar meals were again still great, which were washed down with a nice cool beer. One of our family is disabled... More

Stayed here for two nights over the Bestival weekend as access to the festival is relatively easy by taxi. The welcome is warm and friendly, the rooms very clean if a little dated, the breakfast is generous, and you get a front door key so you can come and go as you please. There is free Wi-Fi which we had... More

The owners very friendly and polite. Wendy, who waited on us was very polite and helpful. Took a class of children and they really enjoyed their stay. Would have liked access to water and cups for evening refreshments. Rooms lovely clean and comfortable Also stayed without the children at a weekend and it was a very nice stay. Would recommend

We stayed at The Fernside for a few days in May. The room was very comfortable and clean. Den and Laurie were the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The cooked breakfast was great, and set us up for the day. It was great to go back to The Fernside in the evening and relax in the... More

Visited with friends for a weekend trip away to the Fernside. Both Denise and Lawrie were so welcoming and nothing was too much for them. The choice of English Breakfast was great and cooked to perfection. My fried egg was lovely and runny, very difficult when catering for so many people at one time. The Fernside maybe a little old... I came with friends to stay at Fernside during the weekend. Denise and Lawrie are so welcoming and helpful. The cooked breakfast was delicious and we also enjoyed several other meals and had very generous helpings! The decor at Fernside may be old fashioned, but everywhere was spotlessly clean and our room with ensuite shower was comfortable. We enjoyed a... More

Stayed recently for a couple of nights over a weekend. When you arrive you could be forgiven for thinking it's a little out of the way and looks a little old fashioned, but for what it lacks in modern decor it makes up for in droves with service. We were greeted very cheerfully and shown to our rooms. Our double... More

My wife booked this hotel for a short stay on the Isle of Wight with the intention that her cousin and husband would stay with us. Unfortunately due to family reasons they couldn't go. When we arrived Laurie gave us a warm welcome and told us about various places to eat in town. He also told us which roads to... More
