My partners mother lives in sandown and we visit often. We always get an early ferry, we arrived om the island at 4am and unfortunately could not get into our caravan till the next day so struggled for one nights accommodation. We drove to the altavia on the off chance as we have stayed here for a long weekend visit... More

Arrived at the hotel and walked into what I can describe as an old peoples home. The back of the hotel Is filthy. On arrival told that we have the best sea view room... Really! The room was something of what I can describe as a 70's throw back. The decor was awful with 4 different wall papers on the... More

Thought we were in a time warp when we arrived- Straight out the 1970's and so very like Fawlty Towers. The owner had moments of friendliness but I can see what other reviewers have experienced when he is a bit "stressed" he's incredibly rude. On asking for some milk for my room we were given some out-of-date cartons which I... More

I was so worried about the booking I'd made to return to the Altavia with friends for a Mother's Day weekend. I've always had a good experience at the hotel, it's cheap, in a great location, and the owner couldn't be more helpful. Yes, a bulb did blow when I entered the room, and upon reporting it the manager had... More

Very tasty breakfast; staff cater to my diverse dietary needs and are flexible with my need for early starts. Owner, wife and staff are very friendly. Comfortable social lounge, with large screen tv. Comfortable bar area with range of beverages on offer. Pleasant seaview; comfortable mattress and bed linen. Would recommend this hotel to a friend.

Well where do I start...no light in the room, meaning I had to use the light from the hallway and rush in and put the TV on so I could actually see what I was doing. Might have been better to stay in the dark as the room was appalling! 20 minutes wait for hot water, towels not changed all... More

Stayed at The Altavia on a 4 night break and had been a little concerned due to some reviews, and yes the hotel décor is a little dated, but re-decoration was taking place whilst we were there and John and his staff more than made up for decorative issues. There is newish patio which is really nice, as well as... More

We booked a two night stay at this hotel via East London Travel. All went well the coach pick up was on time with a friendly driver. We did not expect to much from the hotel which reflected in the price we paid, but we did not expect what we received. On arrival we sure got the WOW factor to... More
