Had booked here for two nights, and had emailed confirmation from the website, but then I recieved a phonecall from the hotel to advise we had been double booked. They blamed th website and did offer an (unsuitable) alternative hotel out by the airport, but as we had booked The George for its location near the castle, my five year... More

This old inn is being refurbished. The landlord and staff couldn't have been more helpful when we needed a room at short notice. Bed and breakfast for under £70 in a beautiful room at t h e front of the inn overlooking the castle - a brilliant view. Breakfast was full Manx ,(full English) with massive portions or Manx skippers... More

Can't fault this place, very friendly helpful staff who were more than happy to describe the specials as well as the main menu and great prices compared to Douglas. All our meals were cooked to perfection and drinks were sensibly priced, well worth a visit.

Had a weekend at the George in June. What a little gem! You know when you get good vibes from a place, and this was one of them. Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. Expected a bit of noise, FRI-SAT evening from diners, drinkers, but no. All quiet upstairs. Food very good. Especially Breakfast. Castletown is a small place,... More

We were desperate to find somewhere serving food and decided to try The George. What a good choice, the bar meal was excellent. The atmosphere and service very good even though they were busy. Will go again next time we visit.

We loved staying here and the room we had was fantastic. Outside our window was a beautiful castle to view. We had a balcony facing the main street and it was great for people watching. The place is old so understand that not everything is shiny and new so be realistic and enjoy the place for what it is!

Old carpets, uninspiring decor in the bar, a strong smell of pots of oil in the kitchen and some slightly bizarre staff make for this Hotel/Bar/Restaurant not being too inspiring. We had one lovely young female member of staff show us to our room and she was efficient, helpful and honest about things. The first guy who served us was,... More

7 of us stayed here doing coastal walk. Was also worried by some of the reviews but we all agreed it was fine overall. Yes, the stair carpet desperately needs replacing and gives a dreadful first impression but on the plus side our room (9) was fairly clean, very spacious, quiet, and had the best shower of all the rooms... We booked this in a hurry without doing our normal trip advisor checks. A couple of days before, my wife read the reviews and panicked. Upon arrival to IOM we swung by to take a look and check the room, as we were fully prepared to book elsewhere and lose the money we had paid for two nights, based on... More

If I were simply rating the hotel I would rate it terrible; but the pub-grub raised the score. Had I not been with friends with an event-packed itinerary worked out for the whole of our three night/four day stay, I should have turned on my heels and fled - possibly screaming! The George Hotel has to be the filthiest place... More
