This is a grand old building in a fantastic location. The age of the building, however, means that it is extremely noisy at night, both through the walls from other bedrooms and (worst of all) from the floorboards above. After one night I sacrificed my (nice) first floor room with sea-view for a tiny room at the back of the... more

We were in the isle of man for our eldest daughter's wedding, a party of eight stayed in this hotel. The reception and bar area's were nice and clean and the reception staff very helpfull. We had a standard double room which was a bit on the small side, but comfortable and clean, no view either. My cousin paid a... more

We stayed in this hotel over the New Year. The receptionist was lovely, friendly and full of information. The breakfast is supposed to be freshly cooked. On the first morning the sausages were wrinkly and cold, the scrambled egg was watery and drinkable. Not good. The young girls serving the breakfast were giggling among themselves and speaking in their own... more

We booked a standard room at the Empress. It was clearly recently updated and was well appointed with a good bathroom with excellent power shower. We were only staying one night and were very pleased overall with the room, reception staff and the service at the function we attended at the hotel. Breakfast was fine and we were pleased that... more

We recently had a 3 night stay at The Empress Hotel Douglas Isle of Man. The hotel is lovely, very clean with great facilities. The only thing that let it down was the staff. On checking in the Receptionist did not inform us of the facilities available, and did not come across friendly or helpful. We had a meal in... more

An old hotel that has been modernised. Standard rooms are very small and ours had a sloping floor. The view from the bedroom window was of the building site next door; dust from which set off the fire alarm at 3 a.m. and got everyone outside on the prom. The food and service at breakfast was terrible. No parking. We... more

Stayed at the Empress for one night on a business trip. Truly dissappointed for the amount of money it cost (£85 per night). Small room facing other rooms at the Hotel with a net outside the window for whatever reason. Staff unhelpful - I requested an iron and was told I had to come down to reception and fetch it... more

I knew going to the Isle of Man that it would be pricey, but I was surprised at being given such a small room with view of an ugly alleyway for £85 per night. Staff at reception very unhelpful, on two evenings was ignored by reception staff talking amongst themselves, maybe because I was in work gear (thought workers would... more
