We had our Wedding Day here on 20th March having already stayed a few times earlier this year and would recommend this lovely hotel to any body who appreciates discrete friendly service and fantastic surroundings and food. Durhams best kept secret is that this hotel offers what Durham has long lacked, a good quality, small and friendly hotel with a... more

Conveniently located with a good view from the dining room. A standard (£150/night) room was tiny, slightly grubby, cheaply furnished and inadequately equipped. Half the lights in the bathroom were dead, the towels were small and the toiletries minimal. The cobwebs, dust and hair were generously provided! The most exciting thing about the evening meal were the frozen peas (at... more

This is a very clean, nice boutique hotel 4 minutes walk away from the historical town centre. The only tip I would give you is to choose your room wisely as some of the rooms are tiny... the beds too (not at all double beds), I believe they call them "the courtyard rooms". The rest faltless, nice and helpfull staff, nice... more

We stayed at the Grafton Hotel for a friend's wedding on a Sunday. The reception was at Durham Castle and we didn't fancy staying in student accommodation, so we chose the Grafton Hotel as a bit of a treat (it's quite pricey) and also its location. Basically we paid a premium for a bit of luxury rather than 2 single... more

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times already while travelling on business and therefore the benefits for me might be different than for other people. What I like about this hotel is that they remember my name, they pay attention to the small details like freshly baked cookies in the reception area and cool Michael Buble on the radio.... more

What a lovely hotel. We really enjoyed our stay here. The room, (the castle suite), was wonderful - clean and large with a very comfy bed and lots of pillows. The bathroom was great with a huge bath and shower and very fluffy towels. The staff were also lovely and very helpful. We ate in the restaurant in the evening... more

Ate Sunday lunch with the family here. Stunning house and staff are terrific. However the food was mediocre to say the least. Starter of pan fried goats cheese on basil leaves with vine ripened tomato was a slab of warm cheese on a few cheap salad leaves with 4 tiny bits of cheap chopped tomato. No bread basket offered even... more

Hotel is pleasant enough and has calm atmosphere depite some very dodgy clashing green decor. We booked a week in advance for dinner bed & breakfast and told them both over phone and by email that I have Coeliac so can't eat gluten (in wheat). No problem they reasurred us. At dinner when I asked which dishes on the menu... more

We wanted a small and intimate wedding reception in elegant surroundings and that is exactly what we got at Grafton House. Our wedding and reception in Durham on 2nd of August 2008 was a wonderful, stress free, experience. The service we received from Mary Parker and her staff at Grafton House was first class. We did all our preparations by... more

The plan was to go to this little boutique hotel, have a nice meal and then go for a night out in Durham City Centre and bed down for the night in nice surroundings.....that all changed the minute we entered our suite. From the outside Grafton is a clean and unassuming terraced building with quaint topairy trees and shiny door... more
