We stayed at Cathedral View for a three night break our first trip to Durham. Our room at the back of the house overlooked the cricket ground and river. Room was large well appointed with a separate en-suite. There is a small resident’s lounge with information and sherry if you would like a nightcap. Jim the host has lots of... More

My husband and I stayed here for two days whilst visiting my husband's student son. We found Cathedral View to be welcoming, comfortable and warm, and our host, Jim, was very friendly and helpful without being 'in your face'. We had a pretty room with comfy beds, tea and coffee facilities, and nice toiletries. Best of all, we had plenty... More

We stadyed here for just the one night last week. We were greeted by Karen who after finding out it was our anniversary, immediately upgraded our room. Karen checked us in and provided lots of local knowledge on where to eat and what to do, inc guides, maps etc. Our room at the top of the house was immaculately decorated... More

My wife and I have stayed at this wonderful Town House a few times. Any reader wishing to stay here can't go wrong. The attention to detail is impressive: including binoculars in one room to get a better look at the view, a clothes brush hanging in the cupboard with trouser press, pack of cards, and the usual extras one... Dear Richard and Elizabeth Thank you for your generous and comprehensive review. I shall have to buy a bigger cap! We've had a look at your daughter's website (Celeste) and listened to all of the tracks which are wonderful and we wish her every success in her musical career. Best wishes Jim and Karen More

My husband and I spent one night in this delightful guesthouse and wished we could have stayed longer. The decor is beautiful and tasteful and everywhere the hosts have clearly asked themselves what they'd like to find in a hotel room themselves. There are thoughtful little touches everywhere - the small teapot in your room and the chocolate biscuits, the... More

We spent a delightful long weekend at cathedral view and were looked after really well. jim is a great host and on hand to help with any assistance you need from taxi numbers to restaurant recommendations. We stayed in room 6 which was large, very clean and had a great view of the cathedral & castle and surrounding countryside. The... More

We stayed 2 nights in August 2013 while we were up for the cricket test match. Beautiful décor and room, and what a great breakfast! The owners Karen & Jim were very friendly and helpful, and would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone staying in Durham.

We stayed with Jim & Karen for a long weekend in chilly November and very welcome we were made. The house is immaculately decorated and very clean and warm, but you are still able to control the heat in your room. We were right at the top of the house on the street side and this kept the (fairly minimal)... More

Dear Annice and Richard Thank you for taking the trouble to write a review and delighted that you enjoyed your short break with us. We have emailed the apricot recipe, which you will find to be simple to make but, as you know, delicious to eat. Kind regards Jim and Karen More

As a former resident of Durham, it felt strange to be back to me second home & not be staying with friends as I normally do. But on this occasion I was visiting for the fabulous Lumiere as well as catching up with friends. As this was my boyfriend's first visit to somewhere that was important to me, I wanted... More

The 33 stairs to, and sloping ceiling of, Room 6 "Phil McDermott" will not suit everyone, but it is the only bedroom with a view of the cathedral and castle, and it is spectacular.. Jim is front-of-house, and very well he does the job - with a warm welcome, affable manner and helpful advice. Karen cooks breakfasts - and excellent... More

Dear David and Ann Thank you for your kind review. I assume that you must have thought that the room where you enjoyed the complimentary sherry each evening of your stay is our own lounge, but is, in fact, solely for our guests enjoyment. Thank you for mentioning this as I notice that we do not have a photograph of... More
