Checked out this B&B as we didn't like the look of most of the hotels in the city. Jim and Karen were the perfect hosts. Rooms were spotlessly clean, well equipped and with all the extras you would need for your stay. We had the attic bedroom with fantastic panoramic views of the city. The full English breakfast with homemade... More

We stayed here recently for the Durham Miners Gala weekend. The Gala in itself was a superb experience which I would highly recommend. The Cathedral View itself was a wonderful place to stay, very warm and welcoming, with beautiful spotless rooms and an excellent breakfast. We would have extended our stay if it had been possible, and will most certainly... More

This is an absolutely perfect B&B. At first glance it appears to be just a small house on a humdrum street but in fact the rooms are very large and have spectacular views of the Cathedral over the river valley. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. And the breakfasts are the best I have ever encountered in a B&B... More

My friend and I recently stayed here for 2 nights. The host (Jim) was very friendly, welcoming and attentive. Both of our rooms were comfortable and well appointed. The whole place is spotlessly clean. Breakfast was wonderful. What makes this place so nice is all the extra touches such as bath robes, nice toiletries, trouser press etc. There was a... More

Just want to thank Jim and Karen for four years of hospitality. We first stayed at Cathedral View when our daughter started at Durham University and we have been back every time we are in Durham. Our daughter has just graduated and we had a wonderful time helped by staying in a familiar, comfortable, with excellent breakfasts and hospitable house.... More

Great hosts. As we say in Scotland " If you want a bleather you got it" Great rooms. Great Breakfasts. Some very good eateries close at hand for evening meals. You need very little during the day after those breakfasts. If you want a "Room With A View" ask for one of the rooms higher up. Can't say any more... More

If you are not absolutely positive you can arrive within a 2-hour window, do not book with this B&B. We reserved 2 rooms and were asked to try and arrive between 5 & 7. Unfortunately, we got lost while sightseeing in Yorkshire Dales and found ourselves out of cell phone range until after 7. When we called at 7:40, we... More

Dear Deanna Thank you for your not unexpected review which is slanderous and not completely truthful. You have the accolade of being the only guests in the 14 years we have been in business to have been charged for a 'no-show'. We are entirely flexible with arrival times but, naturally, need to know when our visitors are planning to arrive... More

We are late posting this review as we stayed here on the eve of our daughter's graduation. Cannot praise the comfortable bedroom, modern bathroom & attentive service enough. Pleasant breakfast the next morning. It is obviously highly rated as it was our first choice when then visiting the Durham Lights but were disappointed not to stay as it gets booked... More

A very well turned out Georgian (I think!) town house. Jim welcomed us at the door, and gave us his full attention the entire stay. His knowledge of Durham (and Yorkshire too) was great, and we followed his recommendations several times. Parking is on the street, and subject to charges at various times, but Jim sorted us a permit for... More

I stayed here with my daughter for one night only (far too short!) to take a tour of the university campus. We arrived to a very friendly welcome and the news that we had been upgraded to a room upstairs with a lovely view. Everywhere is very clean, warm and inviting and you immediately feel very relaxed and 'on holiday'.... More
