I stayed here for one night last week. A short walk from the train station and about a 10 minute walk to the city centre, the hotel is in a surprisingly secluded and peaceful location, at the end of a cul-de-sac on the edge of woodland. My room was clean and attractively decorated, with a comfortable bed, ensuite shower and... More

Stayed for a couple of nights on a short break - staff very friendly and attentive, location central but tucked away so it's quiet at night. Breakfast choice very good with a wide selection. All in all, excellent value for money.

We stayed here for two nights prior to going up to Sunderland for the footie (the least said about that the better - Sunderland 1, Everton 0) We were very happy with our choice as the location is just great and as everyone says, so convenient for walking in to town, the bus station, trains, etc. etc. Add to that... Kingslodge is small and secluded within a short walk of historic Durham. My single room was warm and comfortable on an unseasonably cold March day and good value when compared with similar accomodation in the city. The hotel restaurant, which is leased to a third party, was justifiably busy on the evening I ate there.

Stayed at this small central hotel for two nights to have easy access to a family wedding. It is a very good place to stay very central for Durham City sites and attractions and as a base for exploring the surrounding area. Also handy for the station The weather was cold and snowy when we stayed but the hotel was... More

Visiting for the weekend by train this was a very conveniently located place to stay - close to the station and easy access to the city centre. The hotel itself was a little disappointing for the price - with rather battered furniture in the room, carpet tired looking, a squeaky bed, a missing light bulb, and a shower room where... More

All our rooms are continually updated and decorated. I cannot see where the "battered furniture" or "tired looking carpet" comes into it If the bed was squeaky then we would have moved the guest to another room, on request. There may have been a missing lightbulb which will since have been replaced. This is the very first comment we have... More

We stayed at Kingslodge with our baby while on a trip to the university (of which we are both graduates). Our booking was transferred after our original choice of hotel experienced a boiler failure. No problem for us, however: we were greeted with the customary Durham humour we know and love and throughout our stay they couldn't do enough for... More

This was our second visit to Kingslodge and we were still charmed by it! Friendly staff, charming decor, free wi-fi. A slight disappointment this time was our room. The previous room where we stayed felt larger and had nicer furniture. But the bed was comfortable, and the room was well equipped with pants press, ironing board and steam iron. These... More

A nice hotel in the heart of Durham however it needs kick up the behind. Slow service by dilatory staff still stuck in the eighties. They definitely need coffee training I've had better packet cappuccinos. More attention to detail please.

Stayed here for one night when visiting Durham for shopping and choral event at the Cathedral. Easy to walk into the City, even up hill to the Cathedral only took about 20 minutes. Didn't really use the facilities as we were out all day and evening. There seemed to be a pleasant residents' lounge with free tea and coffee, a... More
