The city hotel is a pub with rooms above. The price reflects the old pub style..Good value. Room was overlooking main road therefore a bit noisy in the morning. Floorboards really creaky ,could hear next door occupants walking about. Breakfast in the bar ok. Staff helpful. Parking nearby with paid ticket starting at 8 am. Handy position to walk up... More

This is a pub with rooms - right at the heart of Durham - the staff were very friendly for the most part and the Mexican food was good. Thee was a great guitarist on on Friday night - and the pub was crowded and noisy - the noise from the street can be disturbing if you are not a... More

The hotel itself was in an excellent location. Two minutes away from the centre. The room was cosy and warm. The room was very tidy. The staff were excellent and very friendly. It is a place I would recommend if you are in Durham.

I visited Durham to attend ODI cricket at Chester Le Street . City Hotel provided a comfortable room for 2 nights; excellent breakfasts and most important all the staff were friendly and very attentive to visitors. Lively pub on the Friday evening but rooms 4 to 6 not really impacted. I will stay there next time I go North for... More

This was my first trip to Durham, the central location of the City Hotel is excellent for exploring the city. The rooms was not large ( a twin) but clean and comfortable and the staff made us really welcome. Not really a hotel in the typical sense, more rooms over a pub, however this did not detract from the experience... More

First time staying at this hotel despite numerous trips to Durham over the last 4 years whilst my son has been at university here. Wish we'd found it before. Great central location, clean and pleasant room, good breakfast and extremely friendly and helpful staff.

Had a very pleasant stay, large clean double room and en suite, excellent breakfast, some traffic noise, but to be expected in a city!! Handy for sightseeing on foot, plenty of eating places if needed within 5 minutes.

I stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting my daughter at the university. There is nothing bad I can say about the place. I stayed in a single room which was small but had ensuite, and plenty of storage plus tea and coffee facilities and was very clean. Only down side was when i flushed the toilet or ran water... More

This is not really a "hotel" -- more like rooms above a pub. But it's pretty good. From pre-trip research, I knew that The City is an 18th-century building with recent modifications to include rooms with ensuite. My impression was that it would be marvellously quaint, reeking with character etc. In fact, the room seemed quite basic. And it was... More
