And what you get is good value for money. The owners are delightful and welcoming. The room was light and airy and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfy and the bedding smelt clean and fresh. Only slight complaint about the room was the TV which made an annoying buzzing noise. There was a man In next room snoring which wasn't... More

Booked two nights for a short visit to the City of Durham. The Royal Oak is a pub about 8 miles from the centre in an old mining village that does B and B and was excellent value for money. The room we had was clean and the bed comfortable with on suite shower and TV. The pub is a... More

We stayed in The Royal Oak in January 2015 and is the best bed and breakfast we've ever stayed in. The room was lovely and clean with really a comfortable bed and beautiful view over the County Durham countryside. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough to help. The food was really tasty home cooked and great value... More

We stayed here in September 2014. The Hotel was not real large physically, only has 6 or so rooms. It was very clean and tidy. Good showers and free Wi-Fi . Good helpful hosts and a great hearty breakfast as well......well worth a stopover here..... it is in a quiet and scenic location.

We turned up at ten at night on a friday, to be welcomed by the landlord and when i ordered a pint and a packet of crisps the landlord asked me if i would like a local takeaway menu. The rooms are adequate, and clean but the people that work in the pub are so friendly and helpful. I will... More

We spent 5 nights here in late August having first visited the pub in 2009 for a meal en route from Hexham to Durham- we liked it so much then, that we decided to pay a longer visit this time round. Sonia and Ian were just as much fun as we remembered, and the regulars very welcoming and friendly as... More
