Its a while since I stayed over one night @ the Royal Oak but I have to say what a lovely place this is. Very clean with landlady Sonia catering to everyones tastes. A lovely place to stay full of lovely people.

Very cheap rooms and a great location in a village ( would not be great for pub crawls/stag do's) - rooms are good for the money paid and a lot better than any generic chain hotel - owners are very friendly with a wealth of local knowledge regarding walks, places to visit etc - food is top notch for budget... Such a lovely little gem with wonderful people. Unfortunately, I only stayed for 1 night but it was perfect. The owners are lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Really felt looked after. Even got a special 'non touristy' cathedral guide which was brilliant! Thanks so much for your hospitality! I promise I'll be back again! Angelina xxx

Landlord and landlady are very welcoming. The rooms were clean but in need of a bit of TLC. One wardrobe propped up with beer mats, drawer handles missing and shower rail broken.Breakfast good. Bit of noise from bar but to be expected.

Booked two nights for a short visit to the City of Durham. The Royal Oak is a pub about 8 miles from the centre in an old mining village that does B and B and was excellent value for money. The room we had was clean and the bed comfortable with on suite shower and TV. The pub is a... More

I was following up some family history and my Great Grandfather lived in Headley Hope and on visiting this place we decided to have our Sunday Lunch, I chose the Lamb and my daughter Chicken, The meat was very tasty and tender served with real gravy and all the veg was cooked to perfection with a bit of a crunch...
