After a very long drive from South Wales, I walked into The Royal Oak shattered and in a foul mood. The latter was instantly dispelled by the warm and friendly welcome. Although I was on my own, I was given a large room with huge double bed, because it was the quietest room in the building. It was clean (the... More

Lovely hosts. Friendly pub. With separate restaurant. Room 1 was clean. Tidy. Warm. Bed comfortable. Good food and fairly cheap drinks. Near beamish and durham. Lovely countryside around. Hope to return

I had the warmest welcome I have EVER had anywhere. As a lady staying on my own in the area on business it was lovely walking in to a lovely warm pub nicely decorated for Christmas. The welcome from Ian was lovely and made me feel at home from the start. He even carried my bags to my room. My... More

To start we had such a homely welcome on our arrival. The rooms are a really good size, clean and very comfortable. Excellent view from our window. After a long day at Beamish Museum (which is great) we had a fantastic meal at The Royal Oak. Could not fault it, absolutely delicious to taste and excellent presentation. The breakfast was... More

This place is a little out of the way for most attractions and it took 30 mins to get back to durham in the morning. Welcome service, grateful host and good food. The room was smallish, but clean and comfy.

My time at the royal Oak was super. Warm welcome, clean rooms with comfy beds. Food is all home cooked. The atmosphere within the bar was amazing, really felt welcome. I'm not a breakfast person but Sonia made me pack lunch each day. Sometimes coming in late from work and always happy to make me some dinner regardless of the... More

The title of my post says it all really. A few of us arrived here due to a double booking at another location. We were shown to our rooms an it's the quickest I've ever wanted to leave anywhere yet as it was disgusting. I'm disappointed as I never took a few photographs of the silver tin foil ashtray in... We booked The Royal Oak after reading the reviews on trip adviser. We weren't disappointed. Sonia and ian made us feel very welcom, as did all the village locals. The room was comfy and well equipped and the the food was lovely home made food. Wood definitely stay again

Good value. rooms were comfortable. Very friendly staff and great food with a large menu For a local pub/ hotel they had a good choice of beers, a little bit away from civilization but we were not looking for a town centre location. overall would recommend.
