We stayed in The Royal Oak in January 2015 and is the best bed and breakfast we've ever stayed in. The room was lovely and clean with really a comfortable bed and beautiful view over the County Durham countryside. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough to help. The food was really tasty home cooked and great value... More

fantastic friendly welcoming staff, excellent substantial breakfast and food cooked to your liking. clean contemporary rooms. they cant do enough for you here, they pre warned us of a local party that was being held no excess noise heard from it, to be honest the nicest and one of the cheapest places I've stayed in in Durham and will definitely... We stayed here in September 2014. The Hotel was not real large physically, only has 6 or so rooms. It was very clean and tidy. Good showers and free Wi-Fi . Good helpful hosts and a great hearty breakfast as well......well worth a stopover here..... it is in a quiet and scenic location.

We turned up at ten at night on a friday, to be welcomed by the landlord and when i ordered a pint and a packet of crisps the landlord asked me if i would like a local takeaway menu. The rooms are adequate, and clean but the people that work in the pub are so friendly and helpful. I will... More

We spent 5 nights here in late August having first visited the pub in 2009 for a meal en route from Hexham to Durham- we liked it so much then, that we decided to pay a longer visit this time round. Sonia and Ian were just as much fun as we remembered, and the regulars very welcoming and friendly as... More

We were looking for a quiet one night stop over to break our long journey home. This was not it! If you are looking for a quiet night of restful sleep - keep looking. This is a PUB, and has all the normal pub noises - the loud thump, thump, thump of the music from below went on until almost... More

What a little Gem! Loved staying in this comfortable, friendly, and relaxing Bed and Breakfast. Welcoming greeting from the staff. The Family room was perfect. My ten year old daughter loved the bunk beds. Clean bed linen, spotless modern toilet and shower. Everything you needed. The evening was delightful, spent relaxing, listening to some musicians who came in, and the... More

We stayed here for just one night en route from Yorkshire to Liverpool. Very friendly place, with warm greetings from Sonia and good cheer from Ian. Locals in the bar also very friendly. We were made to feel at home. Room was ok, with comfortable bed, good wifi and ok shower. Nice to be overlooking a field in the countryside.... More

This was my first gala, so I needed a one night stay. The Royal Oak was the first one that I tried and to my surprise got a room straight away. After a 5 hour drive from the Forest of Dean and some magnificent countryside around Lanchester, I arrived feeling rather tired and jaded. After a very friendly greeting from... More

We stayed here for one night on 28th June 2014. When we were showed our room our first impression was how damp and musty it smelt. The outside of the building badly needs a paint job as does the inside. The toilets had tiles missing and the sink was hanging from the wall! We had a game of pool and... More
