The Three Tuns is pretty average. Its got a great central location ( a lot better than most hotels in the Durham list) but it is pretty expensive for what you get and a little dated. more

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly The Good Despite what one or two reviewers have said, this hotel has a fair few good points in its favour. The location is excellent, right next to the picturesque & historic part of the city. The two car parks, although a little tight, usually had spaces available for guests. The twin bedded... more

Better than mediocre, but overpriced, especially by U.S. standards. Friendly staff, comfortable bed, relatively clean bathroom. A good breakfast. more

The wife and I booked into this hotel for two nights. On arrival the girl in reception was extremely helpful and attentive. The room was well set out although some of the furniture had seen better days. The restaurant was nice and the staff very good. The food was also very good and well presented. The location of this hotel... more

Down on business on a Sunday night after a drive from glasgow and 3 hour survey of a nearby premises. Hotel reception area looked fine, a nice atmosphere and could hear a bit of the students who were having a dinner but all sonded fine and good natured, not a problem. Check in was efficient and found the room easily... more

Swallow Hotels are doing a great value short break - two nights dinner bed and breakfast per person. That's for both nights. Other people have commented about noise. The hotel is right on a busy road so ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Room was large and comfortable Breakfast was good. Dinner was OK - not... more

Just returned from a two day break at Three Tuns and was very pleased with the hotel. Generally in need of updating but staff were brilliant, food good, big clean, comfortable rooms and very convenient for the city centre so no driving or taxis. Some very good deals on two/three day breaks. more

If you do some research you'll be prepared for an old building with old-fashioned furnishings in the somewhat shabby reception area. However, the advantages outweigh these small details. The location is excellent. It takes about 30 seconds to cross the road and go over the bridge and then you're into the old town. Because the hotel is outside of the... more
