My partner and I stayed on a saturday night in May for a relaxing weekend. We were told that check-in was from 3 and we were hoping to be able to check-in a little earlier, but were told that we couldn't. No problem, we left our bags and went for a massage at the Beauty Centre next door, great hot... More

I was a solo traveller staying for six nights in a Supreme Room, 3rd Floor. The Room was first class, very comfortable and with great views and little noise. It was lovely to be able to open the windows slightly. The housekeeping staff were all excellent, very polite and very efficient. I made extensive use of the Health Centre, it... More

I recently stayed at the Royal County hotel for 3 nights with my Mum. Overall I thought the hotel was good. It is in a great location, just a 5 minute walk from the centre of Durham and right next to everything - shops, bars, restaurants, cathedral, castle etc. It overlooks the river to the rear which was rather nice... I held a 3 course evening dinner here for 40 guests and found that the staff are so helpful making sure everything is all planned out and to your exact requirements. They are very friendly ensuring the night goes as planned and providing friendly progressional service. The food was also very good. I hope to have guests attend this hotel... More

We knew this 4-star hotel when we lived in Durham. We visited the hotel on a Saturday evening for a birthday dinner for my wife which I arranged. We were with friends visiting Durham from Oxford while on a stay nearby. First impressions in the large reception area were anti-climatic after the imposing entrance. Dull and unwelcoming in dark browns... More

Stayed at the hotel as part of a weekend break with my wife and another couple. The hotel is in a good location in the heart of Durham and front of house staff were friendly and courteous. The hotel itself is a little shabby in many places, and could certainly do with a bit of freshening up - in both... More

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights over a weekend, there was 7 of us in 3 rooms. The staff at this hotel are exceptionally pleasant and helpful particularly the breakfast staff who were very good. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The pool is very nice. Bad points; charging guests who have paid at least £100 a night... More

This must be our 5th or 6th time we have stayed here. Very quick and efficient booking in by the very pleasant receptionist on duty, who also offered advice and a print out of directions for us to a nearby Hall and gardens. We were also offered a complimentary glass of wine as we were booking in. Our room 364... More

Stayed here for one night in May. After booking rang hotel to ask a few questions re room, parking and breakfast. Answered by Stuart who went above and beyond customer service to answer all my questions and allocating me a room on the second floor overlooking the river which was lovely. I explained that we would be arriving early and... More
