I was a bit concerned about booking a night at this property in light of some reviews. We found the room large (for Britain!), clean, and the bed very comfy. The reception staff were courteous and quick. The property's location is hard to beat--just cross one pretty bridge and you're in the heart of historic Durham. The Internet connection was... More

Great location, perfect for visiting this beautiful city with easy access to the Cathedral, Marriott provide world class facilities, comfortable rooms up to date facilities and services that generally deliver, but for some reason just lacks the human touch, everything appears to be done to a script, it just seems to lack any sincerity which is a great shame

Good points great location nice spacious rooms, good reception staff and Starbucks attached to Hotel. Swimming area very nice. Negative points Expensive breakfast you have to add to room rate, parking is not free and no walk in shower in bathroom.. Also gym has old equipment. Bar and food not great. Not much to make this hotel excellent.

We are traveling through the UK with young children (3 years and 1 year) and booked this hotel because it had a pool. We like to hop in with them for a few minutes before bed to help settle them and keep them quiet for the night. We were told the pool is open until 11p, and we arrived all... More

Back in my student days, the Royal County reigned supreme as Durham's top hotel. These days, under corporate ownership, it appears to be just one of several comparable choices. It is very central, reasonably up-to-date in its style, deceptively large and meandering. My room was quiet and comfortable. The luxury bed would have fitted a Victorian household. The river view... One night stay in Durham and at the Marriott. Fabulous reception staff who gave advice on the city and restaurants, very helpful. Our Room was upgraded which was a nice surprise. Only disappointment was breakfast. Table layout with mugs, no side plates, asked for gluten free bread and got one slice! Bacon and eggs cold, staff seemed very busy but... More

Durham is such a lovely city and the proximity to the centre was my reason for booking . This is a well appointed hotel as you would expect its clean and comfortable but the room was small. However £10 for 24 hours internet is ridiculous !!! Dont bother paying for an over priced breakfast BHS is accross the water and... More

We stayed here as part of a large 2 night conference. The staff were so helpful and the pool wonderful. We ate here one evening and had a beautiful steak meal with fantastic waiting staff. We did change our hot room for one with better aircon and we then were very pleased. Would definitely choose this hotel again. Thank you.

We have stayed at this hotel many, many times and are always comfortable here. The rooms are comfortable, clean and have everything we need. They still have a bit of the old world feeling which we like. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The breakfast gets us off to a good start for the day. We love the location... More

Love staying the at the Marriott Durham . Large rooms, excellent food beautiful city to explore. Car parking on site. Pool a little dated but that's part of the charm.remember waving to politicians on Durham Miners Gala who stood on the balconies and waved at everyone. Nice to stay somewhere which brings back many happy memories.
