I stayed in Durham on the spur of the moment, and the Shoes was recommended by the tourist board. This old style pub with rooms above is friendly and homely. Its not beautiful from the outside, but I think it is classic. I worried about noise (the pub was lively but not exceedingly loud, and things shut down at a... More

I stayed there for 4 days during a quick visit to Durham. I arrived quite early in the morning but the room was already ready and could check in. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, full of light during the day and quiet at night, I had a perfect sleep. Breakfast was also a good... More

We arrived at the Shoes abit later than we said but this was no problem, a very polite lady behind the bar showed us to our rooms which where absolutley imaculate and very spacious. After unpacking and coming downstairs there was a young boy behind the bar which we later found out was staying watching the place and nothing was... More

Stayed a full week at The Shoes while visiting Durham and greatly enjoyed my stay. To avoid misunderstanding, I shall state that this is an old style, no-frills, 'pub accommodation', b&b style. The owner, Billy, and his staff are extremely friendly, the room I was in was en-suite bathroom (towels, hand and shower liquid soaps provided), comfortable, and quiet, with... More

We booked the Shoes at short notice while the owner was away. The lady behind the bar and the young man (owner's nephew) who were running the place were very helpful and friendly. An excellent pub B&B, recommended.

I stayed with my friend at The Shoes for two nights and it has been one of the most comfortable and relaxed places. The staff was always helpful and friendly, the room was tidy, wifi worked perfectly and the breakfast was simply excellent. Extra soya milk was provided for me as I have a milk allergy. If I come to... More

This is great place to stay if you are cycling on Sustran route 1 through DUrham . The staff were so welcoming and helpful. The room clean, comfortable and great value. We arrived very cold after a long days cycling and the heating was put on for us so we could warm up. Highly recommend this well, priced pub. In spite... More

I went to Durham with my five month old baby to get a passport. The Shoes is a short taxi ride from the train station. Approx £5-6. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by all who were there. The bar was well stocked, perfectly clean and the ales were well kept. We were helped to our room at the... More

after surfing the net, I was not disappointed at my find in Durham. billy was an excellent host, and was very helpful. the shoes suited us, as it was also a pub, and very reasonably priced, and although not central, it didn't matter, it was only about a 20 min walk into the lovely city of Durham, or a five...
