Always a pleasure to call in for a few great beers in this excellently located watering hole . A good selection of real ales and very well priced with a good outdoor area for smokers and drinkers alike with a large flat screen for any footie fans , right beside the river too . Well worth a swift one or... More

I travel up to Durham every few months and always try and call in at The Half Moon Inn for a bottle of cider. I like the old pub feel of the place,no music blasting, plenty of comfy/cosy seats/booths,and the staff are always chatty and friendly. The Half Moon's jewel without a doubt though is it's lengthy beer garden which overlooks... More

I was a regular here some 50 years ago, (yes I am quite aged) and apart from some minor changes and a major hike in the price of a pint all seemed pretty much the same. A proper pub, Victorian fittings, friendly and convenient. The only thing it could not produce was lost youth, but then..........

Whenever we visit Durham a trip to the Half Moon is always the highlight....a decent pint in good surroundings, friendly staff, no loud music blaring so you can hold a decent conversation. There are always some locals to join in the 'crack' and watch some sport with if it takes your fancy. Truly worth a visit if you are in... More

Whilst on an unplanned day trip to Durham, we stopped at the Half Moon for a sit down and drink as the shopping was wearing me and my friend out! We were greeted by friendly and approachable staff who were more than willing to cater for us. During our conversation with the bar staff, we mentioned how much our feet... More

We visited Durham for this year's Lumiere on Friday evening and to I have to say that I was astounded at the lack common sense the staff at this establishment showed. There were six of us, all adult. Two of the younger members of the party are 18 years old and, unfortunately didn't have ID with them. We do appreciate... More

Not many proper pubs about these days but this one fits the bill. Always busy a good sign of a successfully run inn.Everyone able to chat instead of being drowned out with music and tvs.NICely situated just down from the market place opposite three tuns hotel

The Half Moon Inn has a great reputation for excellent ale and it never disappoints. I have been calling in here for many years now and I love the pub. The prices are reasonable and there is always a great selection of real ales that are kept in tip top condition

I have been drinking in the Half Moon since I was 18 yrs old and it's always been on our pub crawl route. It's a friendly pub with a large beer garden at the rear leading to the River Wear from where you can see the Elvet Bridge and the rear of the old buildings opposite the Swan & 3... More
