We got a really good deal, direct with the hotel. The room was a reasonable size and it appeared to be decorated recently. Our package included dinner. We thought the food was good and staff very friendly. I would agree with a previous post about the average age of the guests, I was probably the youngest and thats saying something!!... more

This place is Barnstaple's only four star hotel and I question whether it deserves either that rating or the praise in some of the earlier reviews. it evidently sees itself as 'classy' which it most certainly is not. It seems to cater very predominently for middle income pensioners and cares more about form than quality. There is a strictly enforced... more

In the last six months I have stayed at 4 hotels in London, Bath, Newquay and Birmingham and none can compare with the reception, friendliness, courtesy, rooms.service and food provided at the Imperial. I have been despairing of the standards encountered. The stay at the Imperial was such a refreshing change. and I would recommend it without any exceptions. more

This hotel is wonderful. The service that we received right from our arrival to when we walked out the door was exemplary. Yes it is an "upmarket" hotel in some respects but there is something quite nice about having to dress up for dinner. They have standards and that is something to expect from this hotel and not to be... more

This is an excellent hotel overall and there are good and bad points. I would base the 4 stars on the food and service - unfortunately nothing else. Food - this was absolutely excellent, it must be the best food I've had in any hotel anywhere. Presentation, flavour, content wonderful. Service - in restaurant it was first class. Very attentive,... more

I spent one night here on business. Room was clean, with everything you want but a bit drab. Tea and coffee in the room was poor quality and nearly undrinkable. You get better in a travel lodge. I had a meal in the bar and found the menu lacking in choice, (2 beef dishes or 2 fish dishes), food was... more

The restaurant experience at this hotel was excellent Great food, presentation, choice and service. Loved every meal including breakfast. Rooms were dated but comfortable. The big downside has been mentioned in other reviews, it really is like a retirement home. I am 70 years old and I would not go back for another 10 years.I wanted peace and quiet but this... more

We intended to stay in the imperial hotel for three nights but we left after two. Every morning our sleep was interrupted by the lawn mover. After asking for another room hotel management was not willing to give us another room and made fun of us! I am 62 years old and stayed in a lot of up-market hotels but... more

Stayed for one night -Dinner, bed and breakfast in a deluxe room (room 105), booked via the hotel's website at a cost of £250 We were only able to stay for one night so decided to splash out a bit on a quality hotel. We wanted a relaxing break so were pleased to hear views on here that the clientele... more
