Checkin was efficient and so was checkout. We were booked into room 111 (DS) and room 105 (DM) as expected. It was a very hot day and night. We found room 105 though smaller was airconditioned while room 111 which was larger and had a fan was for us not the better option. Both rooms were well appointed. We required... More

This has to be one of our favourites and one of the excellent Brend hotel group. The staff have been there for a number of years which shows a good hotel, it has lots of atmosphere and a variety of in house places to eat, 1st class service ,excellent food and drink and rooms are very clean and comfortable .is... Stayed just the one night on a business trip. Excellent location in the town centre with secure parking at the rear of the hotel, although be careful you don't get blocked in. It was one of the hottest days of the year in Devon so I was glad that my room had air conditioning, made for a comfortable stay and... More

Stayed here for three nights in July. The Royal and Fortescue is situated right in town so easy access to everywhere with the High Street directly in front, a ten minute walk across the bridge from the train station and two minutes from the bus station. The decor of the room was pleasant but even with the window wide open... More

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights whilst visiting Devon/ Cornwall area. Had a suite room which was lovely, clean and modern and quiet. Had breakfast one morning at hotel which was delicious. Parking at back of hotel was very handy. The hotel is centrally located, so plenty of places to eat and drink close by.

Stayed for 4 nights, great location and close to all that Barnstaple has to offer. Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the high street with triple glazing (can see why as on Sat night woken twice by yobby behaviour of young people worse for wear at the end of evening) which wasn't the hotels fault just were the... Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, and thank you for your positive comments regarding the staff, rooms and hotel in general. Although the hotels location can be a problem at the weekend, the position of the hotel, close to the towns, shops and restaurants is a bonus. I hope to be able to welcome you back... More

We stayed on a Saturday evening knowing that the hotel was in town so expected some noise. We didn't expect the noise to be an air conditioning unit! This was provided as our room (203) overlooked the high street and it was advised to shut the window due to night time noise! The room was stifling hot, even with the... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I'm sorry to hear that the air-cooling unit was too noisy, and that consequently the room was too hot. I'm glad that we could offer a solution though and I'm glad that you enjoyed the Percival Suite. I hope you had a good birthday, and that we can welcome you... More

Staying away on business is a real bore, especially on a budget, you are never quite sure if your booking will pay off, however, I'm delighted to say, I got it right this time! The Royal and Fortescue has made this week a pleasure to be away from home! The staff are wonderful! Greeted by the smiley receptionist, helped by... More

for £85 a night this was pretty poor. Small towels, a small room with a large bathroom, a de humidifier which has a fan to keep the room cool, Evan though they have their own car park it is severely lacking in size. a TV signal that kept cutting out but the worst is the cleanliness of the room. the... I am very sorry to have read your recent review of our Hotel. We take the cleanliness of our rooms very seriously and as you can see from previous reviews, we usually get it right. On this occasion however, we have obviously failed to do so and for this I can only apologise unreservedly. I can assure you that this... More
