Was lucky enough to need to spend a night in Barnstaple so headed straight for the R&F which is very handily located in the centre of town within walking distance of the theatre, pannier market and lots of shops etc. The rooms are nice and spacious, the food was good and they do great coffee but the most important thing... I stayed at this hotel during May it's in a central location with car parking. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and accessible by a lift. The communal areas are very comfortable especially the bar and dining areas. The full English breakfast was fabulous cooked to order from a very wide choice.

Stayed here for one night on a business trip in mid May 2015. Arrived late, around 10.15pm and managed to park in the free private car park. Free parking is a real bonus these days! The receptionist was very helpful and friendly when I arrived and check in was a breeze. The hotel had emailed me the day before with... More

We stayed at the Royal and Fortescue,Barnstaple last Sunday night. We occupied two rooms, one twin (114) and one double (117) I had requested two quiet rooms on booking and that was exactly what i got.We all got a good uninterrupted nights sleep but the view from the rooms was not exactly wonderful. Both rooms were perfectly adequate with modern decor,comfy... More

We stayed for two nights the breakfast was very good but pricey. We had a meal at their Italian restaurant, the meal was ok but our friend who is staying at one of the hotel group has an allowance for her meal and they had an issue about claiming this from the other hotel. The manager came over to discuss... More

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our hotel. I was happy to read that you enjoyed your breakfast, and meal in Florentinos, and that you found your room nice and comfortable. I am sorry that you were not impressed by how the manager dealt with your issues regarding the allowances, but I'm glad the waitress... More

We've just stayed one night here and have to say for the price (£75), it is excellent value for money. Huge comfy bed with fresh white linen, the room is tastefully decorated and well maintained in this lovely quirky building. If I was going to be picky the housekeeper missed a mars bar wrapper on the floor which we noticed... More

Excellent excellent.Only problem, the squeaking floors as you make you way to your room.Obviously been around for many years, their experience shines though. The food is absolutely superb.Their customer service is magnificent. No problem too large, willing to drop everything to assist. This hotel should be upgraded to five star status.I have stayed at many 5* hotels worldwide but never experienced such homeliness and helpfulness in... We booked into this hotel for a romantic, anniversary weekend away. We don't go away often, so it was supposed to be a treat, although it ended up being more like a nightmare. The rooms are good value, so we weren't expecting anything spectacular: we could have coped with the lack of parking, old window which rattled every time someone... More

I booked before reading the reviews of the dreaded "mews" and whilst the corridors would benefit from the presence of a dehumidifier, both my room and bathroom were perfectly in keeping with the "old world charm" of this hotel and a very welcome and comforting change from the lenny henry fronted identikit hotels so prevalent in every city in every... Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. The staff are so friendly and accommodating at this Hotel that I feel it hard to write anything bad about it. But I should say just bear in mind it is in the town centre so there will be noise from the street below from the Bar or Pub near them. This happened on two nights we were there. Also... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. As you observed the location of the hotel in the centre of town does mean that there is some night time noise, and whilst being close to town is a bonus during the day, I can understand that it isn't so over night. Also, regarding the temperature of the rooms,... More
