I stayed in the Old Vicarage for three nights after reading such positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Ideally situated on a quiet road yet within close proximity of town centre shops and restaurants and walking distance of train station. Very well appointed room with good quality bedding and toiletries. Sandi and Bryan were excellent hosts and Sandi's delicious baked goods were... More

I stayed here with friends as we were walking in Devon for the weekend and could not be happier with the choice of The Old Vicarage. Clean, welcoming and thoughtful are just some of the adjectives I could choose to describe the place. The (seriously good) cake in our room each day was just one of the many little touches... More

Stayed in room 1 for 2 nights, room standard was excellent, the free standing bath was an added bonus. The breakfast was faultless served hot and to a very high standard. Bryan was the perfect host, unfortunately Sandi was away but her cakes lived up to their reputation, a very nice touch. Thank you both, we visit family in Barnstaple... More

Thank you for the review, you are most welcome to the hospitality, and for teaching us a Black Country saying. It would be nice to see you again, when Sandi can get to meet you both. She’s presently having a lovely time with our new granddaughter. More

Our four-night stay was delightful. Brian and Sandy do a terrific job of providing a Classic English experience which starts with a larger than expected room tastefully decorated. We had two comfortable chairs to enjoy the cake or muffins supplied every afternoon. There is only one way to get there by car and since we got lost, we simply called... More

Thank you Nancy. We hope the rest of your visit to the UK went well and the trip to the North was enjoyable. It was nice hearing your news each morning as you found out little bits of your family tree and were even able to find the old farm. More

Stayed here whilst doing a section of the South West Coast Path in North Devon. What a lovely place!! The room was spotless and comfortable, the hosts are kind, helpful and welcoming, and the food - full English breakfast and evening cake is delicious.

Thank you, you were most welcome. And wow, you have travelled to so many amazing locations; we’re sorry you couldn't stay longer as it would have been great to have the time to hear about your adventures, but we’re very chuffed that after so many interesting places around the world you enjoyed your two nights at The Old Vicarage. Spent Friday and Saturday nights here on a weekend spent walking on the South West Coast Path and on a daytrip to Lundy Island. Well located for the ferry and for the SWCpath, as well as a short walk from the centre of Barnstaple for restaurants and wotnot. Outstanding service. It was my turn to book accommodation for the group... More

Thanks for writing such an extensive review. Your TripAdvisor name is so apt as you were such a cheerful group who obviously enjoyed being away together in the great outdoors. It was clear you caught the sun on Lundy which made us even keener to make it across to explore it ourselves. More

Visited Barnstaple to support our son playing in a Rugby tournament here. Booked The Old Vicarage for 2 nights due to other great trip adviser reviews and was not disappointed. There is off road parking, lovely furnished bedroom with ensuite. I rarely find a shower better than mine at home and this one was easily as good. Breakfasts were excellent... More

The rugby tournament seemed to be a great success, it was nice to see how proud you were of your son’s performances. We’re pleased you enjoyed your stay here and appreciate you taking the time to write a review; thank you. I stayed here on the night of 28th April - there was a warm welcome and a delicious slice of cake in my bedroom. The room was clean, airy and perfectly decorated. It made you feel very much at home. Breakfast was second to none - I chose fresh fruit salad followed by an English Breakfast. Quality of food and... More

This is the 3rd time I have stayed here in a year. Once again I was not disappointed. The rooms are lovely and clean. The hosts Sandi and Bryan are helpful and friendly. The breakfast is great. We stayed here for one night on the final day on completing the first leg of the SWCP and were lucky to stay in Room number 1. I understand the hosts are busy refurbishing all of the rooms at the Old Vicarage and are just completing the final room. Room 1 was huge and beautifully decorated with an incredible bathroom... That first leg of the SWCP from Minehead to Barnstaple has such an amazing range of terrain and scenery, and it changes with more variety again as you continues on towards Bude. Thank you for taking the time to post a review. It will be nice to see you again when you start the next leg; when we will be... More
