Stayed here on the evening of 14/01/2015 on business and what a wonderful experience it was. We stayed in the Duke of Edinburgh last time but it was fully booked. Booked The Chetwynde instead and it was as good as the Duke - wonderful value too. Lovely place and decent sized rooms with great appliances. Very quiet and a wonderful... More

Myself and my partner had recently got engaged and wanted to go somewhere peaceful for a break. I made a few enquiries with the hotel via email regarding availability, after which I rang the hotel to make the booking. Unfortunately it was not until after the confirmation was sent to me that I was informed that the hotel restaurant would... More

Hotel was really nice. Staff all very friendly and food was superb! Bar area has lots of sofas and chairs and looks really good. Really quiet at night which gives you a great sleep. Room and bathroom slightly tired and could do with a makeover and TV could do with the full range of freeview channels. Would come back regardless

Very nice hotel, with good facilities. Had free upgrade to superior room in annex which was quiet, modern and well appointed with plenty of space. Breakfast excellent with wide range of choice and nicely cooked. Only slight negatives were that the restaurant was closed Saturday PM and there was a little noise from the bowling club behind - but that... More

Never sure what to expect in Barrow, but this property is lovely and newly updated. The service at the desk and the bar is very good and when I had trouble with my key late at night I was escorted back to my room to ensure I had no issues. This place is first class!

My boyfriend and I chose this hotel as a cheaper alternative to Chequers, further down Abbey Road, for a wedding on the weekend of 26th - 28th September 2014. It was only £75 per night. For this we had a supreme room in the modern outbuilding to the back of the main hotel, complimentary robes and water and a great... More

It was our second visit. We had a beautiful, spacious room with lovely period furniture. Excellent dinner and good, substantial breakfast. All staff, including the owners were very pleasant and helpful. Our stay was not expensive.

Having stayed here a year ago when my colleague and I were upgraded to the newer rooms at the back of the hotel, I have to admit to being disappointed with the room in the main part of the hotel. Very dated and in need of freshening up. The bathroom was v old the shower very poor - would struggle... More

The hotel is very historic and nice to look at but that's it. There was no one around all evening but all the rooms are full. I booked this room needing wifi only to find it's broken so they say, after I asked if my room will get the wifi I'm told it's rubbish all over the hotel. There's no... More

Goodness this was harsh! The guest is correct - we are a Victorian hotel built in 1860, and our restaurant, function room, lounges, and wonderful staircase are in grandiose Victorian style, with sympathetic décor to match and more than one antique dotted about. If it was a quiet evening we can only apologise - but I can reassure future guests... More
