My husband and I travelled to Bowness intending to stay just for the day. But the weather was beautiful so we decided to find a B&B. We spotted the White House and as I am disabled we were told we could stay in a ground floor room at the Churchill bar. The room had a filthy carpet and one of... More

Having purchased a one night stay through a Wowcher deal prior to reading any reviews on this hotel, I was pleasantly surprised with what we walked in to. I think it would be unfair to criticise heavily a place that is priced highly due to its location not its quality. The area surrounding is beautiful, walks to the lake and... More

We stayed in the annex building just next to main building of The White House which holds the more modern rooms. The rooms were made to look modern but were done with a low budget, cheap fitting and fixtures, plasterboard in various places in bedroom and bathroom needed an extra coat of paint, holes filled in with filler and not... Do not stay at this hotel! It was dirty, water was running from the ceiling, the kitchen was filthy. We feared for our welfare and did not stay, moving to a nearby hotel. the owner was unpleasant and we could not leave fast enough.

Spent a weekend here with my elderly mother & sister. The website states it is a restaurant but this is not so, despite menus being outside & in the dining room itself, which is now only used for breakfast. The 2 adjoining rooms were adequate & the beds were good, but a thorough clean was needed, particularly the windows &... More

Stayed here for 2 nights and instantly wanted to find somewhere else to say. The hotel is run down and very unclean in a lot of rooms (we stayed with friends and every room had an issue) Our room in the annex was a good size because it was a family room but unclean (see pictures). Dirty walls with coffee... More

I don't normally write reviews and always look to have a good time wherever I go but I feel compelled to write this review after such a disasterous stay. I booked a family room at the White House for 2 nights, well in advance of a visit to the lakes with my son, mum and niece so we could spend... More

I must say, having read all the negative reviews about this hotel, I was expecting something awful. Our 2 days were paid for on a voucher deal too. We found the hotel quaint - the room, bed linen, bathroom were all clean. The bed was very comfortable. Our room overlooked the courtyard - and there wasn't a sound coming from... More

I have just returned after 2 nights booked at the Whitehouse Bowness. We were placed in a room at the annex which is actually attached to the Churchill pub next door. Access is via a filthy terrace -cigarette butts strewn about! The room was on the top floor pigeons were in the roof space all night keeping us awake -... More

Like a lot of reviewers we stayed using a Wowcher voucher given to us as a present. I was also confused at the photographs of the Spa as there is definately not one in the hotel. It may be that it is in a nearby hotel, but this is not made clear on the website!! We were given a room... More
