Stayed for two nights in March and was amazed by the spacious and elegant interior. A very warm and welcoming establishment, with the staff offering the same warmth and hospitality. The bedroom (No 17) was large and airy, with fabulous views out over Lake Winderemere and was extremely comfortable. We had dinner in the hotel on the first night the... More

I took a Rugby tour to this hotel for the weekend, booking the hotel for ourselves... all 160 of us. I cannot fault the hotel, staff, management, food, location and value for money we got for the weekend. All 160 tourists thoroughly enjoyed the weekend the food was great with plenty of choice, the rooms clean and well presented, friendly... More

Myself and my wife booked ourselves a long needed/awaited weekend away in the lake district. We very much looked forward to it. On arriving at the hotel, the car park was so full there were cars parked almost up to the entrance. When we entered, the reason for the bursting car park became clear. There was a "bridge" (card tournament)... More

This is a very old building which has a lot of original features. The room was simple and quite small however, it was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was lovely. We stayed here for a romantic, Valentine's treat and it ticked all our boxes! There is a steep hill to climb to get to the hotel so the elderly may struggle... More

As other reviewers have stated this hotel is dated. Obviously once a grand establishment it now appears dowdy and overdue for a revamp. Our room was dingy, with poor lighting, except in morning sunlight. The TV was tiny and, as for the bathroom - I think I've been in bigger ones on airliners occasionally! The breakfast buffet was nothing special,... More

I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions over the years and recently stayed briefly for one night on my way home from edinburgh. I find the hotel fascinating in regards to the size of it with all the rooms and corridoors and its history. Ok the hotel does look tired when approaching it and it is tired in... More

yes, as others have mentioned, the rooms are very very dated, they could do with a massive revamp through out the entire hotel, although very expensive, it would make this hotel a lot more welcoming, and probably attract more custom. But apart from that, it's still just a room your going to sleep in for the duration of your stay... More

I stayed here for one night to attend a dinner in the large dining room. The meal was excellent and expertly served. The hotel itself however was a bit dated and in need of a makeover in some places. It's noticeable when a big group check in that some rooms were small and dated and others were larger and well... More

Stayed here for the weekend, the bed was like sleeping on a stone slab, supposed to be a double but my feet hung out the end, very small room (room 19). The heating was on full blast all night so had to keep the "balcony" door open, the balcony was shared with other rooms, anyone standing out there could see... More

My partner and I have just returned from a night away from the Hydro Hotel in Windermere. We booked this after looking through many hotels due to the fact this hotel had a pool/ Jacuzzi and sauna. We wanted central location which this was. Upon arrival the hotel looks a little dated from the outside but the views were spectacular.... More
