We stayed at the Old England for one night in October and had booked it a few weeks previously on LastMinute.com so we saved a small amount but because the hotel wasn't too full we also got a free upgrade to a lakeside view which was amazing and probably worth paying for if we were to re-visit. Great hotel! Would love to stay again. Short taxi ride from Windermere station (about £4), right next to the Windermere lake and boats. There are rowing boats as well as self drive boats for hire nearby, as well as boats to Lakeside (and steam train), and Ambleside. Also close by is Beatrix Potter Attraction where you can get your photo... more

We stayed here for the weekend of the 24th October. For the price we paid, the hotel exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the newer refurnished part of the hotel (room 134 which was at the end of the coridoor and lovely and quiet). We also had a lake view which was an added bonus. It was with some concern that we recently checked in at the MacDonald Old England having read some of the moans and complaints on Trip Advisor but I am glad to say that we had no need to be concerned. This hotel is undergoing some refurbishment still I hope. My room was slightly bashed and in need of a lick of paint, but that was the only negative. The room was spacious, with fantastic views of the lake, the staff were helpful and cheerful, the food fantastic I enjoyed it so much I intend to return for a leisure trip more

I've spent two nights in this hotel, and it was very disappointing, from A to Z. Check in experience. Very poor, with little or no assistance from your staff.
