Some of the staff were a bit 'off', not sure if this was because they were too busy due to a shortage of staff or not. Concierge did everything at 100mph, nice guy but too busy. The restaurant staff at breakfast were few and far between and there were usually 5-10 guests queueing to be seated each morning. Vegetarian meals... More

Hotel was booked through an agent, when we arrived check-in was easy and quick with reception and offering to help us with our bags. The room was really nice, with a very large double bed, large windows and plenty of room for clothes etc. Facilities in bathroom were good but considering the size of the room it was a bit... More

I have stayed at this hotel many times, and have had some issues before, but it is well located. This time I visited I checked in and everyone was pleasant and helpful. To connect to the so called high speed internet, you need a cable, but they don't volunteer this information so you need to trek back to reception to... More

We visited the Macdonald Old England Hotel on 21st January for four nights fully inclusive and what a lovely hotel it is. The setting is beautiful and the staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. The concierge got involved with everything to help the guests, from parking the car to giving directions and I was most impressed. I... More

Arrived on a Friday after booking a package for 2 nights £440 dbb inc wine in a feature room. Service at reception is VERY slow, definately need extra staff at check in and out times. After staying previously at this hotel we thought paying extra for a feature room would be extra special however were very disappointed, the view was... More

Dear Chrissys63, Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay. I''m sorry though for any little niggles that may have let down your experience with us. My wife and myself have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. The hotel was excellent and had a very comfortable warm friendly feel to it. We were given a free upgrade to a lake view room which was very nice although possibly a little on the small size though. The lake view was more like a... More

Stayed here on a last minute whim. Room was Huge and very classy (234) but only had views of the Stags Head hotel opposite. Parking is via a car park about 100m away and you need a swipe key to get in so collect this from the desk first, especially if it is raining! Facilities in the hotel include Gym,... More

I have just returned from a one night spa break at the Old England hotel. It was fantastic!! the room was large and newly decorated, the bathroom was sparkling and had everything you could need in it, and the beds were extremely comfortable. We had a lovely swim and then a body massage, which was wonderful. We ate our evening... More

We have stayed at this hotel several times in January for a couple of days at a time. We usually leave it until the last minute to book as the hotel is expensive. We have stayed in various rooms in the hotel - the best being a room with a view over Lake Windermere. All of the rooms we have... More
