We booked here on the recommendation of some dear friends and how right they were. An extremely warm, stylish and welcoming country house .... it feels like staying with friends. We had taken my ageing mother with us and our rooms were opposite each other ... A great help. The staff are very friendly, use names in most cases and... More

I highly recommend this hotel. First of all, the location is stunning: set in the midst of dense foliage, with magnificent views over the lake and the hills, and surrounded by beautiful gardens, a wonderful terrace, and excellent walking trails right from the front door, one would never guess that it is an easy mile-long walk into the town of... It is quite hard to get to this place - take a train from London, rent a car and then drive through twisty windy roads. At the end of it is the reward - a great hotel with a view! Fair warning - it is expensive. The staff can range from courteous to reserved but overall pleasant. The grounds are... More

My husband and I first stayed at the Linthwaite about 15 years ago and were very impressed. We returned in March this year to enjoy a weekend with friends and were not disappointed. The house is an impressive building and the interior design in all the rooms is very tasteful. Customer service is very good and the staff are well... More

We stopped by for a leisurely lunch. We had a delicious and beautifully presented meal. 3 courses for £20 plus wine and coffee. Very good value. The staff were professional and friendly and we had our pre meal drinks and then our coffee in the conservatory with sweeping views over Windermere and the hills. Other guests were having attractive looking... More

We stayed five nights at this lovely hotel. The staff were very helpful, polite and accommodating. We had the dinner, bed and breakfast option and because the menu was the same each night we were offered alternatives on three evenings. The bedroom was beautiful, the bed so comfortable and the quietness afforded a really good nights sleep.

The location of this hotel is superb with stunning views across to Lake Windermere and the hills and mountains beyond. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely furnished and the bathrooms are modern and well appointed, overall in terms of the accommodation they are ahead of a lot of the competition in the area. We would only add a couple... More

Thanks very much for your very interesting review! I think the kitchen must have had an off night on desserts, which is not to excuse any failings. The majority of reviews seem to love the puds, so sorry! Glad you liked most of the rest though. Kind regards Mike Bevans More

Spent 2 nights here with husband and daughter on 29 & 30 July enroute to the Commonwealth Games. Had a great time - everything was first class. Food and service faultless. Was worried that it would feel stuffy (as I have felt in previous establishments) but not at all. All very relaxed. Can't wait to go back.

I love the fact that you said you were worried it might be stuffy staying here, but it wasn't. We try to do unstuffy, in fact our little company that owns Linthwaite is called the Unstuffy Hotel Co Ltd. It's nice to know we are succeeding. Hope you enjoyed the Commonwealth Games, weren't they fantastic? Mike Bevans More

My partner and I stayed here on 24th and 25th July 2014 and enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea on the terrace in the sunshine. The hotel was like a white oasis in a beautiful garden and grounds, with a great view of the hills and lake in the distance. The staff were friendly and polite and nothing was too much... More

Linthwaite has a superb location above Windermere. You only get a narrow sight of the lake itself, but it's nevertheless a great view from a great terrace with with tables for drinks and snacks. It's clearly a country house hotel, but with a modern touch. I loved the style - not chintzy and too old worldy but not ultra modern... More
