Douneside house is in a stunning location, but it is not the only reason to visit. It retains the feel of a grand country house, the staff are attentive and the service is unobtrusively excellent. I hope the refurbishment goes well and it opens again soon!

Our company recently used this venue for a week long course. The staff were excellent, the rooms were clean, the meals were amazing and the view and grounds were both scenic and relaxing. I didn't do any hiking because of the short days but you can see the potential was there for some really nice excursions.

Having spent many fantastic, relaxing breaks in this beautiful and extremely happily situated Scots baronial style house, we have seen one or two minor changes over the years. However, 2015 promises to be the most spectacular make-over we shall have seen in our 10 years of visits. Apart from the more mundane maintenance aspects such as re-roofing (no mean feat... More

Our third, but by no means our last visit. Douneside House offers the traditional atmosphere, ambience and comfort of a country house/officers’ mess. The staff are friendly, considerate and discrete, The cuisine is excellent. The facilities and amenities, both indoor and outdoor, are first class. The location is ideal for Aberdeen, Balmoral, the Highlands and the Moray Firth area. The... More

This was our first visit to Douneside and it will not be our last. It is a fabulous place to recharge your batteries. The staff are efficient and friendly and the location is second to none. Home cooked food, comfortable accommodation, great facilities and good company - what more can you ask for. It would be a great place for... More

As always, Douneside is unsurpassable for its location, food, relaxation and amenities. A delightful place to stay for families with children of all ages, young couples needing to get away from it all, or seniors who simply want to enjoy time in beautiful surroundings. At Douneside you can do as much, or as little as you want: walking, cycling, fishing,... More

My wife and I have been visiting Douneside with family and friends for over 20 years and we never tire of it. This last visit with friends over a weekend in August was as good and enjoyable as ever. House, staff, dining, attention to detail, comfort and ambience all superb, and well up to the usual high standards we have... More

This was our 5th or 6th Visit to Dounside. As usual the standard of housekeeping and cleanleness was outstanding. The Gardens and grounds even better. Fantastic and Estate staff need to be congratulated. Surprised to see no runner beans growing! Perhaps due to end of season or knowing house closing soon for renovation something was missing. There was no greeting... More

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful five day stay at Douneside a couple of weeks ago. The House manages to combine the best of a gathering of friends at a country house with the food and standard of service expected of a civilised hotel - without paying anything near hotel prices. The staff were charming, the setting unrivalled and... More

After coming up here for over 20 happy years with our family we thought it was the best place to celebrate my husbands 60th with friends. We were not wrong !
