We stayed at Oak Cottage just for a couple of nights and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would recommend staying here with any pet, the cottage was very spacious. The garden is not enclosed but you can keep your dog on the lead. Lots of walking to do and the food at The Royal Oak Pub was great. I showed... More

Stayed here for an easy location to get to a meeting in Penrith. Arrived on a Sunday evening and managed to park opposite the pub / hotel, without any difficulty. The pub itself is a 17th Century building and guests should be aware of this, as some reviews talk about double glazing, which is not going to happen as I... More

We stumbled upon this pub during a recent stay in appleby and we could not believe how fantastic it was. The staff were always happy to help and polite, the inside and out were clean and inviting and the food was some of the best pub grub we have had. The food was fantastic in quality, portion size and price.... More

We do hope your dog enjoyed the visit and perhaps next time you might purchase something from the doggy menu for him/her to enjoy as much as you enjoyed your food. We look forward to... More

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of February. We took our 2 dogs with us so we were given a room at the back of the inn with direct access onto the garden. The room was very modern and comprehensively furnished with everything you'd need for a 2 night stay including maps of the local area showing walks... More

Having experienced a depressing stay in Appleby just over a year ago, at what was described--`The best hotel in town`(Appleby Manor!) -we decided, after some internet research, to try the Royal Oak. We found this to be a complete and welcome change- from our last Appleby stay, in almost all aspects. The rooms (Premier) were of an extreme high standard,... More

Very noisy. Pub noise to be expected but lack of double glazing makes road noise really bad as the pub is on a very busy road. Floors are old and creeky and ever movement means lots of noise from rooms above and next door. Nice place if your a heavy sleeper but if like me your not its not a... More

This is a must visit place to come for somewhere to eat and/or stay! The whole package is awesome. Superb accommodation, very friendly welcoming staff, amazing food/quality menu, good selection of real ales, and so dog friendly to the extent that dogs have their own menu. It ticks all the boxes, and more. A real hidden gem!

Didn't stay here so can't comment on the rooms or the hotel in general but as a pub and a place to eat this was a lovely place. We stopped in a hotel up the road and came here each night for our food. The food was lovely with a good variety and good prices. Inside feels very cosy and... More

Spent 2 nights at the end of March here. Staff were fantastic and amazingly helpful. So dog friendly , there was even a menu up in the tap room for our little furry friend. The nicest thing was coming in from a days walking, siting in front of the fire with your worn out pooch, and still enjoy a bottle... More

Stayed for a few days in the lovely adjoining cottage. The decor was modern and the bed very comfy. The cottage was kept clean throughout and it was a nice touch to have wifi. The pub had nice staff, nice food and a lovely pub. The value for money was alright. Would recommend.
