I read reviews of the Hotel, prior to booking our stay....and I'm pleased to say I was very happy we chose the Royal Oak. Lovely friendly welcome as we came in; chatty, helpful female who showed an interest in our dog and was very polite. The room was lovely, great size, very clean and lots of storage. Patio doors leading... More

Returned today after a birthday treat from my husband staying two nights with our dog Laddie. From arriving to leaving nothing was too much for all the staff of this delightful hotel. Our room was perfect, the food is lovely, staff very accommodating and they love dogs which meant our Laddie was allowed everywhere. A big thank you to everybody... More

Lovely bedroom, very clean and comfortable bed.The bathroom was adequate and the shower had plenty of hot water Also the staff were very friendly. Only disappointment was the evening meal , which was very expensive and of average quality.

Warm friendly hotel, clean, professional, nice dinner too. Likewise for breakfast. Room was in the eaves and was quiet looking across to field opposite. 10 mins walk to town centre, just right for stretching our legs. Also they give a out a map with a circular town walk, which I recommend as Appleby is a pretty place. And the near... More

Called in on our way home from Dumfries, Lovely pub, with real fire, staff and service was excellent and very friendly. Good choice on the menu, but we opted for the Sunday lunch, I had beef and hubby had pork both were great with loads of meat. Toilets are amazing never seen a sink like it. Will be calling in... We have just had a 2 night stay with our dog at the Royal Oak. Cannot fault them at all. We had the premier garden room number 5, which had a door straight onto the garden for our dog. The room was spotlessly clean and even a doggy bag full of goodies for our dog. Even a dispenser by the... More

Just stayed one night as a winter break but would have been happy to stay longer. The hotel is good and all the staff are friendly and efficient. We were made very welcome including our dog who had her own treats in the room which was supplied by the hotel. Because of the dog we had to eat in the... More
