I hope the panorama photo I submitted works on this site because the room we had was beautiful and normal snaps wouldn't do it justice. We had room 2, I've no idea what the others are like but this was great. The pub itself is in Camra's Good Beer Guide and we'll worth it too, the ales, 5 of them,... More

We have just enjoyed a mid week break at The Old Well Inn which is ideally situated to enjoy Barnard Castle. Their are plenty of bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk of the Hotel and the castle and river are also within a few minutes walk. Bowes Museum is about a twenty minutes walk away.We had a large... More

On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly and helpful Peter, which made us feel immediately welcome. Room was, well, OLD! Just how you would expect a historic building to be. I can forgive the fact that a couple of minor areas are showing age (such as the bathroom), as others have stated, but at £75 per night it... More

Nothing marvellous to report about this place. As a pub, it's fine - a good range of ales and friendly staff. The breakfast was good - well cooked and good service. The room was large and well furnished, though a bit tired. The bathroom was awful: old suite; no shower, just hand held shower tap; old lino on the floor;... More

Stayed 1 night whilst working locally. The double room I was allocated was huge and clean with a very comfortable bed. The real ales on offer where excellent and very well kept. The only disappointment was the main courses on the menu , all stew's & casserole's would have preferred simple bar food. This will not stop me from staying... More

not stayed in Barnard Castle for many years but recall this had always been one of the better pubs there and pleased to say still is the beers where all very well kept and the food we had in there hit the right spot the only slight down side was that the room we had is getting ready for an... More

Stayed Sunday and Monday nights for a friend's wedding. Peter & the staff made me very welcome, the room was comfortable, stylish and well-equipped. Beer and food both excellent and local knowledge available if required. Meals are now available all day, though I had been told otherwise. Breakfast was local sausages, bacon & eggs, nicely cooked and well-presented. The Old... More

although the old well is in a great position, handy for bars, eateries e.t.c. it was not very comfortable and the photos are not a true representation of the rooms which were very tired.not having a chef did not help as meals were advertised in every room and public area but none were available. will not return.

While I wouldn’t rule out returning to the Old Well Inn, it won’t be my first choice. The building, welcome, breakfast and my room were pleasant enough – but note the following. There was no mobile phone reception (for O2) in the building; the free wi-fi was only accessible in the bar; and the chef left (“last week”), so that... More

Lovely room, nice and clean everywhere, first night away with new boyfriend of 3 month, will deffinately return to this homely little place,, loved the place. Plentyof nice pubs in the area, could have stayed longer if had more time off work, the layout of room and en-suite was fantastic and bed was really comfortable too.
