The staff here are very friendly and helpful but the hotel itself is very old and tired. I appreciate the history of the building but the bed sheets and the bathroom dated back quite some years too! The water power of the shower was non-existent and the towels all mismatched. The room had a residential home feel about it and... More

Stayed at The Bell for three nights in late August. We were given one of the Bridal Suites which had a large drawing room, bedroom and bathroom. My wife, who likes to think she starred in a period drama in a past life, loved it. As previous posts have mentioned, it's not a flashy, modern hotel. It does feel like... More

I have just come back from 4 nights at this hotel.Let me begin by saying that although i have stayed at lots of hotels for business and pleasure , I can state that this is one of the best i have stayed at.The character of this hotel reminds one of the hotels of years gone by with an old world... Well located for visiting both the Yorkshire coast resorts, and the Yorkshire Wolds. It lies within easy reach of Scarborough to the north and Hull to the south, but with the advantages of being in a quiet market town. The food was home made and very good, and at sensible (not big hotel chain) prices.

This hotel has a character all to its self. The room was extremely large and quirky and had a 70's touch with coloured bathroom suit and flowered wall paper. We slept really well in the large bed and the rooms were serviced every day. The breakfast was traditional, cooked, cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast or all and a choice of juices,... More

Many reviewers have slated the decor of this hotel - yes it is naff and old fashioned but it is functional and is quite nice for a change! The hotel was clean enough, quiet enough and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the cooked breakfasts were filling and tasty (with tiger bread toast!). The spa was a great... More

Took friends on Saturday for lunch at 1.15pm. Stood around trying to be seated and totally ignored by staff and owner who was sat next to bar. Having caught their attention was told they stopped serving lunch because they had a wedding on. Asked why, as this was within their lunchtime service time, but totally ignored by rude staff who... I think that the Bell is a Marmite hotel, some customers will love it, and others will find it time warped. Have stayed here several times when celebrating New Years festivities and have always had a great time with good food and service. Stayed mid week for a couple of days to explore the East coast, and truly enjoyed the... More

My husband has just spent a couple of nights here on business. This hotel although clean is tired and in need of updating. It offers a good assortment for breakfast. It has a free private car park. Very pleasant staff.
