We stayed in The Royal for two nights. The bedroom was too warm for my liking and tried to open the window. After a few attempts my husband was finally able to open the window about one half of an inch. The bottom sheet of the bed was not tucked in at the head of the bed whilst all other... more

Stayed Monday to Friday, 4 nights in a superior room on DB&B basis at a rate of £102 per room per night. Our room was large, and like the rest of the hotel looked as if it had been recently redecorated, the bathroom was plain with tap mixer shower over bath that leaked over the floor, no where to leave... more

My wife sand I tayed here for one night. We found the accommodation comfortable and the hotel's facilities were good. We had a lovely view of the river, the bridge and the historic schooner. Although the decoration is a little dated we felt it suited the ambience and history of the building. The breakfast was excellent (although I had to... more

Stayed as part of a mature group of cricketing tourists. All staff were exremely pleasant and efficient. Breakfast was great with a wide range of food. All rooms were clean and kept that way with daily clean and tidy first thing. The location is superb overlooking the river and just the other side of the bridge. We have previoulsy stayed... more

We stayed for 2 nights, and found bedrooms acceptable. The shower was very good, but heating needed adjusting to avoid it being too warm. This is contra to others comments but we had a room facing inwards so don't know if that made any difference. Generally there seemed to have been recent decorating done, and although some other comments say... more

Stayed here for one night prior to the Bideford Half Marathon...we were put in the room right above the function suite which was holding a wedding, along with it's live band. They might as well have set our twin beds alongside the drumkit! We were unable to sleep until 1am when it finally finished, not the best preparation prior to... more

How do places like this survive in the 21st century? I reckon they have not spent a penny on it since the 1960s, perhaps before. The first thing that stikes you on arrival in December is how damn cold the place is. It's not until closer inspection that you realise it does not have central heating! There are a few... more
