You could decide not to go beyond the reception hall (chilly vestibule) where you have balked at being asked in advance to settle your bill in cash (due to the credit crunch apparently!!). Even if you decide to proceed up the oak staircase and see your room you will find it furnished courtesy of the bric-a-brac interior design school. We... more

We didn't actually stay at the Riversford this trip, big mistake! even though the hotel where we did stay had a nicely refurbished room, it failed to deliver in so many other ways. We couldn't visit North Devon without having dinner at the Riversford. I had been looking forward to a juicy pork chop with whisky and mustard sauce all... more

We never actually stayed at the hotel. It looks lovely from outside but the bedroom we were shown to was horrendous. We were told it was a premier room with four poster bed. We were shown to the room and could smell how damp and musty it was on entering. The decor was extremely tired and very outdated. The carpet,... more

Very picturesque location Very good food Peaceful and quiet at night Good value for money. On the minus side-room was a bit old fashioned TV old type and old Radio that hardly picked up any channels Too many blankets on bed for august No smell of freshness upstairs. Would stay again though. more

An enjoyable stay for 4 nights - great food, with a wonderful view of the estuary from the restaurant. The hospitable and friendly atmosphere in this family-run hotel more than makes up for its slightly 'tired' appearance. more

My wife and I wanted to stay in Northam for the weekend to visit our grand children so we booked into the Riversford hotel. The hotel is very dated and I might even add a bit of a time warp as many of the fittings reminded me of my childhood, ( im nearly fifty). I would have to say that... more

visted the hotel 3 times now with work and have enjoyed it every time. it does need an extensive referb throughout as it is very dated ,but it is very friendly and you get that personal touch. the food is excellent the steaks are second to none. two courses and your full up. not like these fancy places that leave... more

I rang to book a few days for a chill weekend and found the welcome and warmth of the Riversford excelled expectations. It gave us a home from home experience where nothing was too much trouble and there was no real set routine that one usually finds as a 'processed' visitor. The proprietor and his staff were very caring and... more

I stayed at this hotel in September 2006 The room was on the second floor giving a nice view overlooking over the river. It was a huge spacious area but all the furniture and fittings were both old and shabby with nothing matching. The bathroom was extremely dated with a turquoise suite and a very unpleasant carpet toilet set .... more
