The Pig is a must-visit - stunning, quirky rooms - we stayed in Stables. Great food and delicious Mojitos. Borrow bikes and get lost on the various cycle trails. We found the sister hotel Lime Wood - eventually and had a great lunch there before cycling back.

We popped in just to look at The Pig as staying nearby and had read some good stuff about it. Girl at Reception was charming and even though we were not eating there, told us all the places we could wander round and look at , such as the garden, the pigs, the greenhouse etc. Which we did and enjoyed.... From the complimentary Champagne (it was my wife's birthday), to the superb 'piggy bites', starters and beautiful mains to the scrumptious dessert the evening could not have gone any better. Excellent attentive service (my wife's gluten intolerance can often be an issue, but not here) with food to match, there is simply nowhere better to eat. This was our second... More

I must say I was a little nervous having read some recent reviews especially as this was a special occasion and the place had come highly recommended. Suffice to say the worries disappeared once we were greeted and shown through to the bar. From start to finish everything was absolutely superb. The environment is informal yet classy and all staff... More

My husband and I booked the Green Room for our Ruby Wedding Celebration on Bank Holiday Sunday. Our party ranged from 7 months to 65 years - a real family affair. The Green Room was perfect as we didn't have to worry about disturbing other diners. As with our previous visits, the food was excellent, the service friendly and efficient,... More

We had a torrid journey to the hotel and we were held up in traffic, but we were greeted with smiles and shown to our table, its very busy, but they had remembered I am gluten free, and made available the bread for me and remembered right through the service, the waiter was nice, delicious starter and pork dinner was... My wife and I stayed here for my birthday a couple of Sundays ago, what an amazing experience! We did not know what to expect and everything about our stay was superb. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and full of history. The courtyard is a wonderful place to sit back and relax with a drink, when it came to... More

We had a table booked for 7.00 and arrived as two separate parties. We arrived at 6.45 and had a drink-at 7.03 when he two remaining members of our party had not arrived-technically late but not a problem in another restaurant-we had an extremely snotty waitress ask us if we could contact them to find out when they would arrive... What a lovely hotel. We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and wasnt disappointed. The food was delicious, the service fantastic and the setting beautiful. We will be returning, love it. The only couple of small niggles was that the room was far too hot, we stayed in the Pig Shed, although absolutley stunning, even with a fan it was... More

This was our third trip to The Pig and once again we were not disappointed. We always have a snug room which is supremely comfortable with everything you could need for one night. Our room this time was above the kitchen and overlooking the courtyard but, unlike other reviewers, the noises didn't bother us as all. My partner is a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Pig is the baby sister of Lime Wood – with a little attitude! It is a bang up to date take on a new style of home grown, 26 bedroom country house hotel and what that needs to be today - original, relaxed and sitting comfortably within its environment.......It’s really a restaurant with rooms. This is a place that is all about the walled garden.... everything is driven by the gardener/forager and chef – they grow and find the food – the chef then makes the menu. Our style is home grown in every way – breaking the mold of designed hotels, daring to be comfortable in its own skin, working with what it has and recognising what is good about that. It won’t be perfect, it will be warm, relaxed, comfy, interesting, and homely with muted colours, a bit shabby chic and evolved rather than interior designed. ... more   less
