Stunning old Inn set in a tiny hamlet in between Newton Abbott and Totnes. Arrived at around half 3 on a sunny Saturday afternoon and was surprised that the Inn was closed. It did open at 4 and was soon filled with friendly locals who made their way to this popular watering hole. Was shown up to our room in... More

I have stayed in this property many many times over the last 30 years. And has started to look rather unkempt.. The new landlady who only took over 6 weeks ago is trying to get the property into ship shape Like any new venture there is bound to be a few hiccups This week while I was staying the floor... More

Great if you want to be the only people there for the entire Lunchtime, front door closed when we got there ( that really makes you feel welcome) it was never shut under the last owner and he always gave you a warm and friendly welcome no matter how busy they were, food gone down in quality and the salad... warm welcome, polite staff, we arrived early and they were very accommodating. our room was amazing, a bedroom, then a sitting room and then a bathroom. all very comfortable and clean. We did not dine on this occasion as we had already eaten, but the bar and restaurant were both lovely and fascinating at the same time. Our bed was... More

We arranged to meet up with friends for lunch here yesterday. Our friends live in Cornwall and we live near Chichester. The place was barely open, extremely basic menu, it took 20 mins when we first arrived for 2 coffees to arrive. Food was barely acceptable, hardly any staff and the one we dealt with said she was new and... More

We drove from Plymouth to lunch with friends who were staying near Torquay and chose The Old Church House Inn because of its location and because we had on several occasions met other friends there for lunch and had enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The food was OK but the menu was limited and some of that was unavailable.... More

Our w-end to the inn was booked in May, as on previous visits, with Kane the Owner for the w-end 10th-12th July 2015.On our arrival after a very slow Journey of 4 hrs. we found that a new owner had taken over, upon which we were informed that there was no booking for us. We had a booking ref. &... More

Your disappointment is more than understandable- to turn up with no room was awful. The previous owner had given you a handwritten note promising a room, but, unfortunately had left no record of that promise (in 'the book' or anywhere else) and had taken bookings for those rooms. We did our best to try and help, including finding alternative accommodation... More

2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2015

Went with a group of friends some of whom had stayed before - they noted that there was a vast deterioration since the last visit. The new owners had only been in for five days when we arrived but organisation can be done in quite a short time in my book - there was none. Despite having been sent a... More

Stayed for one night and really enjoyed the experience and country location. For our taste the place could do with quite a bit of an interior refurbishment and some money spent upgrading the rooms. We did have a dog so we probably didn't get the best room! Food was good pub food and the owners and staff were nice and... More

I'm from Australia and spent two wonderful nights at the Old Church House last week with family whilst on a trip through Devon and Cornwall. Wonderful hosts with an Oz connection, great food, charming rooms and the beautiful old church a few steps away. Highly recommend!!
