I found the Bowes Incline using Google Earth, looking for accommodation, local to Beamish Museum. Could not have made a better choice in actual fact...Easily accessed from the A1...Friendly staff and a VERY comfortable room...comfortable beds(twin) ((double beds available))...tea/coffee facilities in room...enormous meal selection, although I found this a bit pricey, it did not deter the general public as all... Stayed 5 nights as part of a longer holiday exploring north-east, location makes it a good base for Beamish, Newcastle, north pennines, Durham. Comfortable and clean room, peaceful rural location despite proximity to Newcastle, very good customer service and delicious (and enormous) dinners. We ate there every night which wasn't our original plan. Large free car park as it's also... More

We have just returned today from our favourite hotel.... The Bowes Incline! We have stayed here many times over the past three years visiting my son at Newcastle University. This trip was for his graduation. It was lovely to have the usual warm welcome and perfect stay! It feels like 'coming home' when we stay here! Room perfect! Food amazing!... More

We booked this hotel 3 days before our birthday trip. We share the same birthday so my husband and I celebrated it by a trip up north (with a trip to Beamish Museum on the Saturday). We were greeted by a warm welcome and familiarised with the hotel before going off to our room. It was very clean and modern... More

Having just read the previous contribution about The Bowes Incline, I suppose the old adage of not being able to please all of the people all of the time, comes to mind, but then we didn't expect (or need) a trouser press ?? This hotel/pub is a real gem, and that goes for the food too. We had no problem... More

Another trip to the North East and an enjoyable stay as always. Excellent menu and despite it being extensive the quality does not suffer. The maid is first class and she maintains the rooms to a high standard. Excellent location with quiet walks - ease of motorway access and minimal road noise despite proximity. Now I think perhaps we are... More

We stayed at Bowes Incline for 4 days in April. The place is immaculate, the food and menu superb, the rooms are away from the pub so quiet. The chef and staff were so friendly and accommodating. A nice country place with easy access to Durham, Beamish, Sunderland and on route to Scotland. This was the best place we stayed... More

This place is at the end of a single lane road and is signposted but you could easily miss this lovely hideaway, if you did you would miss out on a treat. We savoured the light lunch menu, we ordered a beef and a sausage sandwich, both came with salad and home made chips. Taste, content, service and value was... More
