Provided a lovely place to stay to meet some friends. Comfortable rooms and good food. Would certainly stay again if looking for somewhere halfway between us. Very friendly and helpful. Turning across the A1 was a bit daunting but Harold told us how to avoid that. Village very quiet but quite charming.

Thank you for your great review, I hoped you liked the area. As I said, in the spring & summer, there is quite a bit more to see & do! The local Shakespeare theatre, and stately homes etc. Kind regards Harold & Linda More

Spent 2 evenings in the bar and two nights followed by breakfast. Linda the land lady gives such a warm welcome and her attention to detail is meticulous. The food was freshly cooked and tasted superb, Harold certainly knows how to cook and also good at checking that everything is ok. If you are looking for somewhere to eat or... More

How on earth can you charge £5.95 for a bowl of soup that a baby would appreciate in a liquidiser. I am sorry but this is rediculas. The place was slow to get a drink and the atmosphere was lacking. Come on please give value for money. I really did feel ripped off.

Dear Madam, thank you for your review , Our soups are all home-made, with double cream fresh stock, and choice vegetables, and on the evening in question, you were quite ecstatic about the soup, and you ate it with relish, complimenting me on how good the soup was????? And you ate it all. HOW CAN "DING-DONG Chef this is so... More

Had the odd niggle (see below) but the myriad of fabulous stuff so completely outweighed the niggle stuff that I couldn't give it anything other than 5*. Great stuff; food, service, room, shower, cleanliness, breakfast Niggle; size of TV, TV reception, slightly soft bed The rooms are slightly separate from the pub so don't suffer from noise problems. Not cavernous... More

My fishing partner and me stayed at this inn to be near to Rutland Water where we were fishing the following day. As usual I checked rating on trip advisor to find suitable accomodation and was in total agreement with the reviews I had read on this inn.We were welcomed by both Linda and Harold Wood who own the Inn... We passed the Cross Swords on way out to Rutland Water from Stoke Rochford and stopped before opening time to have a quick look we were met by a very helpful landlady Linda, who showed us the menu and invited us to come and dine that evening which the six of us did, it was a delightful evening with Linda... Our party of four arrived without prior booking which although would have been preferred by the proprietor was not a problem. We were made very welcome by Linda. The food was excellent quality and the beer delicious, obviously well kept. There were several diners all of whom arrived unannounced I think we were all staying at Stoke Rochford Hall !... More

My wife and I were combining business and pleasure and chose this inn as our halfway stop for the night as we drove north. Pulling into the village was like entering a different world. So quiet and peaceful. We sat in the pub for a couple of drinks before dinner, and then we're treated to a fantastic dinner. The owners... More

Stayed overnight and it was an absolute joy. Linda and Henry were very friendly, and although I am gluten free this was no problem for this fabulous chef who cooked me something to suit - delicious ! Had breakfast outside in the sunshine, cooked to order (with gluten free bread!) and accommodation was clean - comfortable - and quiet -... More

We found this fantastic place when we stayed at Stoke Rochford Hall, not wanting to eat in the hotel I used google to find some local pubs and this was the first one in the list. We arrived and as we walked in it said "No Children Under 10" bliss we are off to a good start!, then we had... More
