What a great surprise, working in the area I often struggle to find accommodation but this stay was just fantastic, very friendly hosts, beautiful views and just amazing food for which i have paid far more in high class restaurants which has not been so good. I will not only be returning when working in the area again but will... More

Stayed here for one night as had to be in Nottingham the following day. What a gorgeous pub this is - would love it as my local. Fabulous array of drinks, including a great range of summer cocktails at the time of our visit. Dinner in the restaurant was a delicious treat. Chateaubriand was especially good. We were staying on... More

I went there in the winter with my daughter, son in law, a springer spaniel and a standard poodle. The dog walking from the pub car park is excellent. The pub is old with a large woodburner, one main bar/ restaurant and other small side rooms. We took the dogs in with us and they behaved perfectly, under the table out of sight,... When I booked the room the gentleman was obviously under pressure, not much courtesy there! The promised confirmation e-mail never arrived so I called the day before our arrival. A gentleman confirmed our booking and said the room is usually available at midday. Turning up at midday we were told to return at 14.00. The room was adequate, no chairs... More

I recently had an awful experience at the Chequers and left extremely dissatisfied. My friend recently had a wedding event at the Chequers. My partner and I were meant to be staying the night in one of the rooms. When we were shown to our room, there were literally hundreds of flying ants swarming the room. I was lost for... More

...and it was long enough! This is a lovely pub, it looked cosy and welcoming on the website - so we treated ourselves to an overnight stay. This pub is mainly geared up for eating - the bar area has not many seats available for 'just drinkers', having just 2 large tables to sit around. This became a problem when... More

We arrived at 1pm on a Monday and ordered our drinks at the bar. When asked if we'd booked and gave a negative answer the barman became noticibly "cool ". We were taken to a table and waited some time for menus to arrive although we actually wanted to order from the specials board which was brought to the table.... More
